How do I set up a pickup item in the route editor so it is useable in the activity editor?I've tried water, coal and feulpump but none show in the activity editor. when I look at the Settle line, it has an interactive coal tower which is visible in the activity editor. Thanks for any help. Aug-12-01, 03:07 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Setting up Pickup Items?" LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-01 AT 03:13 AM (EST)There are two things that can hide the five pickup objects from the Activity Editor:1) Setting the pickup object properties in the Route Editor so the object "never runs out" of content. Since the whole point of the Activity Editor is to sequence events 2) Having "Fuel Points" unchecked in the Activity Editor menus. You can use the Activity Editor "Action Events" window to force the pickup of the interactive items (Mail, Sand, Gravel, Rocks, Fuel, Coal and Water)In my activities, I also use a proximity event. The player must drive from one of the train sheds to the fuel point. If they reach the fueling siding, the system triggers a switcher to bring in cars for a consist. If they make the fuel pickup and don't just drive on the siding, this triggers an event for the switcher to move the cars to a siding. If they don't refuel within two minutes, the switcher drives away and the route map currently has 80+ miles on it.If the player fuels up and heads to the siding beside the switcher and consist, a proximity event triggers where the System AI train disconnects from the consist. The player then must back up to the consist (since the switcher's disconnected but remains in the way at the other end)If the consist isn't connected within two minutes of the switcher disconnect, I trigger a 35 car passenger train to arrive on the adjacent siding. That boxes in the player train for five minutes. The switcher doesn't move either and events that follow start timing out.

Aug-12-01, 07:23 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Setting up Pickup Items?" LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-01 AT 07:24 AM (EST)Thanks for the reply Jim, I did have infinite supply checked,
and show fuel is always checked for me when AE starts.I deleted the coaltower and placed another but it still wouldnt show itself in AE.I did notice that the pink box on the track has no collide properties, only the scenery object has these properties.
The coaltower has complex collision, and it would seem the pink box has no collision properties.Should the pink box have collision properties also? Thanks for any info. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 12:55 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Setting up Pickup Items?" Check this too:When defining a Pickup item in the Route Editor, there are two pieces that can be selected and they're not the same thing.Clicking the square box allows you to set some properties BUT, clicking the physical object allows you to set more properties. By clicking the object, I mean turn it into a wire frame and select Properties. You'll see that Pickup tab and if you set the quantity and contents values here, they're not reflected in the orange square's properties.I hadn't seen that one before. I set them both now, but only one seems to affect the runtime engine.

Aug-13-01, 01:42 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Setting up Pickup Items?" Thanks again for the info, I've been messing around trying this and that, but I still cant get it to work. The pickup object and box properties are the same except the collision tab. Mine has nothing listed in the pickup box's collision listbox.I'm starting believe this to be a bug or corruption of some sort, because I have tried almost every combination of settings on every pickup item and nothing shows up.I will throw a few tracks down in a fresh route to try a pickup object, maybe find out if my route is the problem. Thanks Jim.Dave.
