For everybody that has used my housing blocks, I goofed. I used BlendATex instead of BlendATexDiff when building the trees. As we all know that results in trees that glow in the dark.
That was fixed and is now in the file downloads as LF_Blks2.Zip. Note that the blocks are the same in this file as the original, just repaired. Also I included the GMax files in this release for those of you who want to arrange your own blocks.
Funny, I had never run my own route at night. Sorry about that.Larry

RE: Residential Blocks....oops

Hi Larry,I have used your housing blocks in the latest version of my Blue_Mountains route, and did notice the trees at night, but decided it looked like moonlight, so I did not report it.Your housing blocks are really useful, and look authentic for Australian as well as U.S. routes, thank you for this excellent resource.Mike

Larry, I do much of my running at night and like Mike had run across this, but figured I'd wait a few days since it's still a awhile down the road for an upload anyway. Just wanted to make sure you knew we were very appreciative of these .. a configuration that has been needed since the beginning. Thanks again!RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

RE: Residential Blocks....oops

Oh well, apparently that thread is not longer available. Here are instructions I posted for someone recently.1. First, back up the object's .s file.2. Then uncompress the .s file for the station sign. I use Route-Riter for this.3. Then open the .s file with a text editor like WordPad.4. Near the top of the file you will see a line that says named_shader. Inside the parentheses to the right put BlendATexDiff in place of what is currently there. That line should now look like the one belownamed_shader ( BlendATexDiff )5. You can the recompress the .s file, but I don't know if it is necessary. You sign will probably be less bright during the day, but won't be bright at night unless the train's headlight shines on it.Bill Burnett

LAST EDITED ON Oct-06-03 AT 01:55 PM (EDT)

In GMax, when you first load a texture (.ace) file with the material editor, it will have a shader selector (below and to the left of the file open area) that will default to TexDiff. This is good for normal ace's. If you are using an alpha channel use the drop down list to select one of the blend options. BlendATexDiff should be selected for objects with alpha unless you want them to shine. BlendATex is first on the list, so be careful.Larry

RE: Residential Blocks....oops

Glowing or not, I think the best part of the whole deal is Larry's readme:Credits: I could care less. I have no desire to require you to list my name in a 20-page document included with your route that nobody is going to read anyway. I created all the files from scratch so nobody else is involved. If you want to change something or reuse my shape file with new textures, then have a ball. I don’t have much, but what I have I share freely. I would hope that you would do the same, but that is up to you. If you use my objects in a route that you happen to sell, and you make a zillion dollars, then good for you.Refreshing to see, especially given some of the recent events in this forum. Way to go, Larry!
