In the downloaded version of Sea View 4, only six categories show in the Object Selector window (see below). However, the SeaView4.ref file appears to me to be normal. The image below shows the beginning of the ref file. Notice the classes "Mainline Stations" and "Vehicles" are not showing in the Object Selector.Gary Cameron, who is reworking the signaling on SV4, pointed this problem out to me. So, it is not just something on my computer.Any suggestions will be appreciated.Bill BurnettObjects missing in Route Editor? – image 1_________________________________________________Beginning of SeaView4.refObjects missing in Route Editor? – image 2

Hee-hee, and I thought I was getting senile. You had this problem first time you packaged with Route Riter, it removes all the unused objects from the ref file. Problem is, sometimes RR saves the file in plain old everyday ASCII format, so the RE won't read it. Open Seaview4.ref in wordpad, select "save as", and in the file type menu select "Unicode Text Document".The reason road sections, sound regions, etc. show up when the .ref file is not in Unicode is because those object classes don't use the .ref file, they come from the global tsection.dat, ttype.dat, ssource.dat, and so forth.

RE: Objects missing in Route Editor?

Hi Jim,I am trying to work out why it was not saved as Unicode in Route-Riter, virtually every route uses RR to compact it and the .ref file usually comes out in Unicode.I had noticed the error in Seaview4 on my system, and forgot to see 'WHY' it happened. By the way, RR has an ASCII - Unicode conversion button, so you can just select the .ref file in RR and click that button and it ends up as Unicode.Mike

RE: Objects missing in Route Editor?

Yeah, it's wierd, I was packing a beta of PO&N7 with RR 4.2.29, and the first time it saved the ref as ASCII, second time and about four times after that it correctly saved as unicode. I suspect the order you click buttons in might have something to do with it.

OK, got it, there was an entry in the Route-Riter code Call ConvertIt("Tempref.ref",flagway)This converts from ASCII to Unicode, but if RR was not looking at the SetupFiles folder, then tempref.ref needed a path. This is why sometimes it worked and some times it did not.I have altered the code to always include the path in this call, and it now works correctly each time.New RR .exe file and help file are at
http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualtrainsPlease note that the new RR now has somewhat improved route compression when producing distribution files using the 'Write .bat' option.Mike

RE: Objects missing in Route Editor?

Hi Mike,Probably not many routes have caused you to modify Route-Riter more often than Sea View. Makes me feel like a trouble maker, but maybe in the process it has helped to make your wonderful program even better.Bill Burnett

RE: Objects missing in Route Editor?

Yes Pat, Ref Cleaner does about the same as Route-Riter to the .ref file. i.e. It reads all the shapes used by the route and produces a .ref file with the rubbish deleted. Unfortunately the version of RR which Bill had did all the work, but forgot to change the file back to Unicode when it finished Mike
