Fish Hatcheries – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-03 AT 09:05 AM (EDT)

I modeled this hatchery outdoor holding tank in about 45 minutes. I have need for these in a couple of locations on my route. The building is a default buiding, warehouse1, I think. If anyone is interested I will upload the holding tanks.Fish Hatcheries – image 2Cal Rasmussen

I'm curious how you did the water texture in the tanks. I am wrestling right now with some spots on the Cal Coast where there is water visible and close to the trackage, but above sea level, and looking for a low poly way to fill them in. Just turning on the water and adjusting the level for tile has some undesirable effects, and are just looking for some way have the ponds without doofing up the other scenery. The tanks look excellent; your models are always very high quality.Fish Hatcheries – image 4I'm sorry...do the voices in my head bother you too?

After I created the tank walls and partitions, I created a panel the size of the inside of the outside walls and sunk it down about a foot from the top. For the water texture, I didn't want to use the river water texture. I wanted something darker. I created a blank 256x256 workspace in PSP7. I set the foreground color to 22,68,94 (or close to that) and selected a texture of "Lands" and did a flood fill. I tried several different textures from PSP's texture pallete and I thought "Lands" looked the best.I have used the water "panel" technique in several places, especially around the The Dalles Dam. I will be using it more in some industrial holding ponds and water treatment tanks (e.g. sewage treatment plants!).Cal Rasmussen

Hey Cal, are you going to put some salmon in there? Looking great as usual! I think you ought to upload it. I'm just thinking where I could use this. Timtimmuir@wcn.net

Salmon, Steelhead, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, and maybe some Louisiana bayou Catfish!Ya know, it just occurred to me that if I'm going to do a sewage treatment plant, I need to figure out how to create "odor regions" similar to sound regions which the sim can already handle. I figure they're working on "smellovision" and odors in movie theaters to why not in MSTS! Cal Rasmussen

RE: Fish Hatcheries

When those sewage lagoons are working properly, there are several located in small towns nearby, there is no oder. When they don't, or, if you ever use one for the old sugar beet plants in the area, hold your nose. You just need to include some animated aerators for the waste lagoons.SRV Ron
