Disapointed

I do not know if anyone was even interested in version 2 of my P&WV route, but I've decided not to upload it for fear of misreading or misunderstanding someone’s wishes on items that were uploaded to the file library. I would hate to put all this time into a route that I was going to freely give away and then worst case be involved in some type of legal action. I think it maybe time to dust off the rails of my empire downstairs.Take care,

I hate to be a party pooper but I have been thinking the same with the Soo/BN Mississippi River route I have been working on. Is the time I am spending with MSTS better spend elsewhere? At this moment I would have to say yes but I am going to see if things cool off. For now MSTS work will just go into hiatus.Maybe it is just me but it seems that the grumpyness/troublemaking level has gone throught the roof in the past few months everywhere. One other regular here can atest to that with the troubles a few indiviuals have caused with a certain railfan list resulting in much trouble for nothing for said indiviual in his profession.Edit: Only way I will quit MSTS for myself is if you take away my computer... of course if you cut the power that will do the same. --

I always state in my readme files that if you remember to credit me,great,if not that's cool,now if someone is selling or using in a payware route that's a different story(the ol TSM can't make money restriction)if I can't profit from my work than no one else should.
That said,I don't think you should'nt worry about uploading your routes,from what I was picking up from Paul's post was that a payware package of his was involved in some manner and that seemed to be the main problem.Gary S

I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it. If it was an object uploaded to the library, feel free to use it. As a courtesy, identify what and whom, but whatever they say in their own instructions, it is ludicrous to think that you also have to ask permission before using. All that silly bickering that is going on on other threads is an insult to common sense. If you put something into the public space, it will get used no matter what you ask, and regardless of what the forum policy states. If you don't want that to happen, don't expose it!Besides, whatever happen to the thinking that you should be building the route for YOUR OWN satisfaction, and if you upload it, thats a plus, and if someone else enjoys it, a bigger plus.I avoid the whole thing by NOT stipulating anything in what I upload. After all, I only upload it to help someone else, not to burden them with record keeping.Martyn T. Griffin

Nor do you have control over. When asked to produce an email verifying your insidious claim that Jim Duncan contrived an email? You produced nothing. I did not know you were making that route, but Yes I am interested in it. I have spent time in that area and love it. Please upload it, or if you dont want to do that I would love a copy. Maybe as a beta testor? One last thought on the You used my stuff without my permission crap. Point is this is a game. This whole thing here is not important. If you are upset about someone stealing your trainsim stuff to the point of posting in several areas about how awful this is, I would say GET A LIFE! and grow up.

I think a copy of your route would be cool. It looks great. I enjoy working with my route, and will share and I am not going to let the likes of Duncan and Fowler fowler that up. I hope you upload it. I'd download it. But then, I'd DL an AVI of someone smacking both Duncan and Fowler in their collective skulls with a about 3 foot piece of 3/4" all-thread. I'd settle for a new route. Rich Garber: An appreciated voice of reason and common sense. But I don't think that the terminally senseless will appreciate your logic. Guys like Fowler hate logic. The P&WV route is one of my favorites. I spent a lot of years traveling in Western PA, and the scenery is very reminiscent of the B&LE as well...It seems like the constant lure of the almighty dollar is poisoning our society, yet I have found that the greatest rewards in life come from giving, not taking. It's sad that a vocal few are succeeding in turning this forum into a debating society...Thanks again to all of you who create for the love of creating, and who share your labors with us, whether as freeware, or as reasonably priced payware. The past year of my life has been a difficult one in many ways, and your creations have provided me with a lot of peace and enjoyment through some very dark days...Peace,

I don't think you have much to worry about. While I'm pretty well blissfully ignorant of the issues being screamed about, after reading through the dueling screeds it seems that the hoo-ha is mostly a personal issue between a couple of folks in particular. The rest of us seem to have been able to maintain (at least some appearance of ) sanity over the lifetime of this forum. People have been using uploaded items on a regular basis without all the silliness that's recently erupted, and we'll continue doing that once the silliness has burned itself out. I encourage you to upload your route if you had worked on it for the enjoyment of the community. We do get a few lunatics now and then who escape the bounds of good sense, but they don't tend to hang around once they've demonstrated their lack of sense, and I don't think there's ever been anything happen beyond some keyboard banging. So, ignore the lunacy and upload what you'd like, as long as you're following the ethics of the group.Edit: Ahhh. They can use them adjust them and re upload them as long as they don't sell them,People make things for free for others to use. Try getting permission from people who have abandoned MSTS and see how far you get...I make models and skins. I don't care what people do with them after I upload them. They can use them adjust them and re upload them as long as they don't sell them or call them soley *their* own work by removing my credits and/or readme's. All I ask is you send me a copy.People make and upload things for free for others to use. Rich and MattI would suggest ignoring the "Hatfield and McCoy" stuff that flared up yesterday. It appears to be the result of a lenghty feud which most of us are blisfully not involved in. Don't distribute any payware stuff, give credit in the readme. Go ahead and upload ypur routes when they are ready - many of us will be pleased to check out your routes both sound quite interesting.These feuds are definatly not much fun.Be Seeing you.

Hello Richard!From the looks of the pics you posted, the P&WV2 Route looks great! I for one would be happy to see you upload it.I have downloaded many items, but as of yet not uploaded anything to FL. The reason behind this is the fact that I have not arrived at the point where I feel my efforts would be worthy to contribute. However, I continue to improve my skills and eventually intend to contribute to the FL. As long as the rules for uploading and the requests of those whose items are used are met, I don't forsee any problems. I understand your concerns, and hate to see the actions of a few people ruin it for everyone.Thank you in advance for your efforts, Richard! I hope to see P&WV2 in the FL soon...Bob

Hey Rich:Don't be a wimp - it looks good - upload. I've got every zip file I've ever downloaded, and the last thing before I upload my route will be a review of the credits and readme files. Most of them say - "go ahead, share this, have fun". Most of the rest say "Share this, have fun, give me credit for my work". I've got one that says it can't be shared without permission, and I'll either get permission or take it out. We've got lots of programs to run through those world files to find the shapes we need to delete or exchange.I've used shape file manager to shrink a few or distort a few shapes to meet my needs, and I've reskined a few pieces. You only need to worry about contacting the few who ask that you contact them for permission. I think that request should be respected - it's not unreasonable.So - lets have fun. Nice route - we need more norfolk SOUTHERN before HQ moves to Dallas with BNSF!Mark

Yes I would like to see another version of this route. I like to have diff. routes to run my NS/CSX/CR power on. Yours and the Hamilton Norfolk are one of my fav routes. Now if we can get another upgrade of the HN.

The updated route is longer, I've extened the line thru state line tunnel to include the Scott Run Branch that serves a local coal mine. I've also extended the Washington secondary below Hills Station. There is some Montour trackage, but I did not add alot because I'm still thinking of doing the Montour. I've also been thinking of doing the Bessemer, but I would need the tall bridge over the Allegany River.Take care,
