Hey Guru's. I need some serious help.I'm building the Boston & Maine from Boston to Fitchburg. I suddenly realized that all my roadbed was a nice straight line on the edges. That's easy to fix , right? All you do is mess with the Alpha channel in the acleantrack1.ace file. Did this. eliminated all traces of the old acleantrack1.ace file. Went for a train ride starting at North Station. Lo and behold, the roadbed still looked the same. I must have screwed up. All of a sudden, there was a section of track which looked absolutely as it should! A little further on, there was another one. Baffelled!Did all kinds of things. Here is my shaky observation. It almost looks as if X-tracks items do what I want them to but Kuju couldn't care less.I guess one of the things I don't understand is the mechanics of how the acleantrack1.ace texture file is used.Any help guys to save this old seniors mind?

There are some other "acleantrack?.ace" files. I know that one has snow texture. I'm not sure about the others. You might want to look at all of them. Also, what folder is the modified file in? Xtracks requires that textures be in your route\textures folder. The default track may be looking in the global\textures folder. If this is the case, you've got a problem since changing things in the global folder affects all routes using default track. That would include the six default routes.Cal Rasmussen

Xtracks or default, it looks for acleantrack1.ace and acleantrack2.ace in the route's textures folder. The shapes are in global\shapes, but the textures for the track sections are not.Might help if you posted a picture, usually this is a video setting issue. Dynamic track and the normal "snap track" sections display differently at lower quality settings. Run the sim, select options, advanced display, and move the four quality sliders on the bottom to the right. If that don't work, check your video card's display settings.

Sniper, you did it again for me. It was the old slider problem. On another occasion, you steered me in the same direction with successful results. Would'nt you think I would smarten up after a while? Oh those senior moments!Okrasa. Did you ever get my e-mail with regards to x-track slip switches?

"a picture would be real handy", you want it, you got it!Roadbed(Acleantrack1.ace) – image 6 Oh, you mean a picture of the effect he's talking about.Roadbed(Acleantrack1.ace) – image 7You can duplicate it by turning down the world object quality setting in advanced display options, the regular track sections get flattened out, but the dynamic track sections retain the 3D shape and full alpha transparencies. That's just another one of those MSTS bugs, nothing to do with Xtracks.

Okay, seen that sometime long ago.
Actually it's not flattened but there are some shortcuts taken when drawing it. Side of the rails are skipped and trackbed is drawn without considering the alpha channel. Moving around a little you would see that the rails are floating above the trackbed.
Point of it all is it's much easier on the drawing engine.
Strange though why they did not extend it to the dynamic tracks also as those are hard on the fps.
