It lives! SVR wouldn't be SVR without that ugly dredge and tailings. Sorry Tim, I'm not referring to the model but the actual dredge. It's an ugly looking scar in the midst of some of Oregon's most beautiful scenery.Great looking model!Cal Rasmussen

Thanks Cal! I have to say, that this thing keeps reminding me of a big fat turkey wallowing in a mud puddle! It certainly is an interesting structure.Timtimmuir@wcn.net

Thank's Tim!I needed a boost. That will sure add interest to the tailings! Now, we still don't have their most "in your face" and memorable items. With all the small ponds between the tailings, There is one thing as common as all the cobbles, MOSQUITOES. Being the nit picker and detail fanatic you are, how about thousands of animated mosquitoes! On 2nd thought, maybe no one wants them!Steve

MOSQUITOES - you could move here, we do seem to get more than our fair share. But at least we have started programs now to slow them down. It was not fun getting West Nile Fever last year.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: This One's For Timken

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a place that had mosquitoes big enough to be seen on the Sim screens But some appropriate recordings and well places sound regions might be of interest. If you could just get them little pests to stay still long enough to set up the microphones ...Martyn T. Griffin

If you saw the movie, "Jumanji" (sp?), both the prototypes and sounds are there! The ones at Sumpter are only slightly smaller, but there's more of them!

RE: This One's For Timken

I thought you would. The beauty of simming, is, you can leave out the pests...there are enough bugs in the sim anyway! Here's an updated view, with some of the barely noticeable rigging on the derricks (textures from the logging blocks):

When is that railroad? 1800s, 1900s? Does that thing belong there? It almost looks too modern. But that aside, Exellente! /JonatanSteam rules! This One's For Timken – image 7

RE: This One's For Timken

Hi and thanks, Jonatan. Believe it or not, that's the mid-1930's! The Sumpter Valley ran woodburning 'lokeys' right up to the end of ops in 1947 ( is that date right,Steve?). The route is supposed to be set in the late depression era. The dredge ran until 1955. It is still there as an Oregon State Park exhibit. Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: This One's For Timken

The end of the woodburners was about 1940. Once they had the mallets (oil) and were only hauling unplaned lumber from Bates, the woodburners went to So. America and Alaska.

This is a neat building, and a very well done model. But what is it? What's it do? I've never seen anything like that before.Rich Garber

Hi Rich,
Thank you! - it's a dredge. You know, digs channels in rivers and streams for larger traffic, to use. Or... dig for gold!Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: This One's For Timken

OHHHHH!! Now I see the water in the second pic. I saw somewhere before someone said had said it was a dredge but it looks like it's sitting on dry land in the first so I thought it was a building. First class job! Rich Garber

RE: This One's For Timken

Yah, that first picture was taken just after a rain squall, and the water is muddied-up. ( actually I was running the sim in summer rain with precipitation turned off, because the rain sometimes gives me vertigo ). So it's hard to tell that there is any water at all. Thanks again, Rich.Timtimmuir@wcn.net

Tim or Steve T. ,
Since you are posting screen shots of the route, would you please post some screenies of the 'donkey engines' hauling and moving the logs all around and onto the trains. They facinate me

Thanks,
Jim
