Has anyone recently tried to access the USGS seamless data site, i.e. seamless.usgs.gov.When I attempt to, and select the viewer, it loads everything except the index map, and then hangs. Any ideas.J. H. Sullivan

RE: USGS Seamless Site - troubles??

I was on a earlier, and had no troubles ... however I selected the area I wanted to download by specifing the east and west longitudes and north and south latitudes. It's much faster that way than slogging through map levels. -- Phil Voxland

RE: USGS Seamless Site - troubles??

I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong on the seamless site? No matter which area of the US I pick, no matter the size, no matter whether I use coordinates or pick an area from the map, I always end up with an error message. The 'order' is proccessed and the item(s) I've selected are there ready to be downloaded. But when I click on any of the download buttons, a new window opens in a few seconds with this message....ERROR
The Raster Extract System has encountered an error with your order. Please try the link at a later time or contact:And a list of phone numbers is given. I've been trying on and off for a month but can't get any further than this. The site's online help doesn't shed any light on the error. Any suggestions??

I know that IE 5.5 works with the seamless site, and yes, thoses errors happen sometimes, just keep trying. Sometimes just a few minutes is enough.David Beach.Palouse & LewistonUSGS Seamless Site - troubles? – image 2

RE: USGS Seamless Site - troubles??

Persistance payed off! I tried 6 times this evening, 6th time it went. I had 7 pieces to download, first 4 went right away, then the error message for several more tries, then finally the last 3 chunks. Maybe the are just that busy. It isn't too hard to get carried away and end up with some massive downloads!

RE: USGS Seamless Site - troubles??

I agree on the busy part.I found that the most efficient method was to use topozone to come up with the desired coordinates and then just use the selection by coordinate method - I never could get the index map to load.J. H. Sullivan
