I'm finally getting competent with the RE and have found some great data for it now that I've discovered "Markers"..
I've been placing flags on my DEMEX formed route and am going to "connect the dots" when I'm done placing 'em. That along with the fact that they can be used to tune my DEMEX map with the R.E. has made this project seem like a do-able venture for me finally...The only thing slowing me down is I have to make stabs in the dark using Mapquest's Lat Long entry. If there was a map of my region that would allow mouse hovering or something to display Lat/Long it would greatly speed up the time it's gonna take me to add the markers..Does such a thing exist??PS, just ordered the Abacus guide now that I thing I have a chance at making something good..

RE: Do any Internet maps display Lat/Long by clicking,

USAPhotoMaps does even better than that! You can create a marker file directly by clicking on the map, which creates a marker point that you can give a unique label if you want (or just call it "mainline" or something like that). You can then use Waypoints.exe (also in the file library) to convert the USAPM file to an MSTS marker file. That way you eliminate the back-and-forth between the two programs you may be using to create your marker file one point at a time.You can also create "routes" in USAPM that follow the track and give you the distance, so you will be able to find out where the mileposts should be.Then when you get ready to start placing vegetation and structures, you can use the photos to give you an idea where forests and buildings are.USAPhotoMaps, in my world anyway, is an absolute necessity for route building. >Andy Hi;
I will agree with this 110%. I've been trying to get on with the route, circa 1900, Mobile County, in my area since MSTS1 came out. I found the old trackbed in topo maps, but, no way to transfer the data to MSTS.
Well, I purchased USAPhotoMaps and a light turned on, even though I was trying to enter waypoints by hand. Then I heard (on this forum) about WayPoints.exe. Man, I died and went to heaven. Regards
Bob

RE: Do any Internet maps display Lat/Long by clicking,

I know the feeling well. The route I'm working on now (Cumbres Pass) is pretty well documented, so it hasn't been a problem getting the necessary route locations. But I've been starting research into the original line that ran from Chama, NM to Durango, CO, which was abandoned in the late 60s, and the line from Antonito, CO to Santa Fe, NM, which was abandoned in 1941. In both cases, the "old railroad grade" still shows up on the topo maps, allowing me to plot the routes. Otherwise, they'd be gone forever. USAPhotoMaps makes it a snap to get that info into MSTS format.Andy

RE: Do any Internet maps display Lat/Long by clicking,

Does USAPhotomaps only work with US places or can I use it for my Canadian route?

RE: Do any Internet maps display Lat/Long by clicking,

You need to find CDNPhotoMaps Actually, USAPhotomaps is driven off the data collected by the US Geological Survey, so don't expect to see anything outside of the US. Even some US areas are missing.Some small tokens of border areas may show up in some areas.Martyn T. Griffin

RE: Do any Internet maps display Lat/Long by clicking,

Darryl: If you have your map registered in TSTF, you should be able to get it to display the coords of any point just by clicking on the map once it is open in TSTF.
