I received word today, and some of you may already know, that Austin is in Basic Training for the Army. That is why we have not heard anything our of him in a while. His final releast of the N&W route east of Bluefield was a beaut, and maybe someday he, or someone else (or maybe me) will extend it up the Pokey at bit, or (what I would like to see) to Mullins, WV, perhaps to Deep Water.Lets keep Austin in our thoughts as we can only guess where his likely assignment will be after basic training.J. H. Sullivan, P.E.

RE: Remember Austin Yoder

Gee - they didn't let him continue his route design during Basic Training? And I thought this was the "new" Army!Seriously, though, he's certainly looking at being assigned to some difficult and dangerous locations for quite some time. My nephew just shipped out to Iraq for what's scheduled to be 6 months, followed by a year in Korea. He's got a wife and a 3-year old daughter, and nobody's very happy about the situation. But with the smaller Army, units are getting a lot more "field" time these days with all the messes going on around the globe. Let's wish 'em all good luck and that they get home safely and quickly.Andy

HI guys!Just before Austin left for the service he sent me a cd containing the "pokey". While we were talking about East River beta issues he mentioned that the Pokey would be his next project. But he was unsure how much of it would be finished before he left. It was then ( like an IDIOT!! ) that I told him to send it over and I would continue from where he left off. From what came on the CD. It's easy to see that he used the East River as a testing ground for his RE skills. I almost fell out of my chair when I went through and saw what he had done on this route.Anyway... In my very limited (as of late) time that I have for anything MSTS related. I'm finding out quickly why everyone hates RE. As a result I have made VERY little progress. I'm not giving up however... I'm doing a little at a time and learning as I go. When I make any significant progess I'll be sure and let everyone know.Later

RE: Remember Austin Yoder

Austin graduates Nov. 7th and will probably be here at home for a week and half or so. I am sure he will visit this forum then. We don’t know where he will be stationed yet. He was kind of getting burned out dealing with Microsoft stuff but now seems to be missing his computer and MSTS. Maybe he is rethinking about using his computer and graphic skills in the army, hopefully. Funny I was westbound, just about to Narrows when he called the other evening, he definitely could hear it. Keith no offense but if Austin is in a situation where he would have time to work in the Pokey I will get him a good laptop to continue his work on it. Speaking of a laptops, anybody have any success running MSTS on them. What brands, configuration, etc. Just to let you guys know I have been printing these comment and screenshots and send them to him so he is pretty aware of what is going on. He always asked about MSTS2.Doyle Yoder

Mr. Yoder
No offense taken! If he has the time buy all means go that route. Since I posted last I have started placing some bridges and foliage. It's still a learning process for me. But i'm picking up quickly. I've also had someone step forward and offer to help with scenery.
As for the laptop I've been able to run MSTS wiht no problem on my old HP Celeron. Only ten gigs of men too. I bought it new three years ago. I would have to say that most of the new laptops can handle MSTS.Later

RE: Remember Austin Yoder

Mr. Yoder,
Like everybody else on the forum, I wondered how Austin was doing. Every time that I run on the East River I marvel at the great job Austin did in capturing the area. My youngest son, Paul, went to basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri in mid-August and has found it much rougher than he thought it'd be. Hopefully Austin hasn't that to be the case with him. Anyway, the best of luck to Austin and hope that he'll stay out of harm's way.Al Evans aka al1218

Austin I think knew what he was getting into. He hasn’t really complained about much other than the running. He mostly says that he misses home, food, pets, and MSTS imagine that.Doyle

RE: Remember Austin Yoder

Long time...well today I had a few hours of pass and decided to see what I have missed. I have really missed MTS, and all the time I have spent on the fourm. I still see the East River is talked about, if and when I get to continue with the Pokey I will. For all of you that have been wondering whats been going on, I'm doing fine and can't wait to get out of ITB basic. As of today I have about 40 days to go. As of right now I'm not sure were I will be stationed yet. I'm here at Fort Benning, GA. There is a NS line right next to my barracks. the line is not to busy, but I get to hear trains about every other day, and I was lucky to see a few sence I have been here. I am doing fine with the physical aspect and have pass all phase testing, and basic marksmanship. It is alot harder then I thought, but I have made it this far and this is the infantry. I sometime don't like it, but other times I find it alright. Thanks for all the countined support. I will try to keep in touch when I can.
