Aug-09-01, 05:49 PM (EST) "Track section names" Anybody know how to find out track section names and their attendant images? I'm trying to create a new route, just for practice, and I can't for the life of me figure out what track is what, as the images in the editor are about as large as my thumbnail! Thanks in advance for any help,

Aug-09-01, 07:14 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Track section names" Track-section File-naming Conventions Track-section names seem to all start with "A",
(I don't know why, but probably so they start with
an alpha character and to keep them together in the folder) and end in ".s". Per Pages 276-277 of Sybex book:
1t means it's a one-track section.
2t means it's a section with 2 parallel tracks.
3t means it's a section with 3 parallel tracks.
4t means it's a section with 4 parallel tracks.
100m means 100 meters long.
1000r means that it's a curve with a radius of 1000 meters.
10d means that it's an arc of a circle that covers 10 degrees.
Crv means curve (only used in older sections).
Lft means the track curves left.
rgt or Rgt means the track curves right.
strt or Strt means that it's a straight section.
buf or Buffer means buffer (the bumper at the end of a siding).
end or End means a sharp curve for use on a switch to bring the siding parallel to the main-line track.
mnl means manual switch which the player can control.
pnt or Pnt means point, a switch that can only be controlled in the Path and Activity editor.
Pnt2_
Tun means tunnel section.
xover means crossing, where two tracks cross over each other.
Yard means yard, a section for use in yards where curves may be sharper.
wtr means water trough, for steam locomotives.
Skew
Rnd means Round (used with Tun to mean round tunnel)
LvlCrs means Level Crossing

Also don't forget that:

You can flip sections with the "T" key,
You can rotate track sections, (or any object) around the y-axis, (which points up)
by clicking the Rotate icon and holding the left mouse-buton down while dragging the cursor left or right.
You can rotate track sections, (or any object) around the x-axis, (which points up)
by clicking the Rotate icon and holding the left mouse-buton down while dragging the cursor up or down.
If you drag the cursor on a diagonal, you will get both rotations at the same time, (probably not the results you want).

Aug-09-01, 10:00 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Track section names" It's worth the price, and is a good starting point, but it seems like it's "once over lightly" in depth of coverage. There's a lot of good information developing in this forum. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 10:28 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Track section names" I appreciate everyone's input. I actually went ahead and compiled a list of each track section, along with an easier-to-read description. It's helped me out; however, I try to fit the pieces together; for instance, to go from a single track to double, and can't seem to find the right switch, or point end section, and can't make the two connect. Any ideas? I suppose I could just look at one of the Microsoft-created routes for how they did it.~Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
