I noticed this morning while working on my route that there is a section of my river (tile boundary) where the water height doesn't match. The water height of the west tile is higher than the water height of the east tile. I went into the tile water heights, and both east corners of the west tile match both west corners of the east tile. If I have these set to the same height, how come the water doesn't line up? Sorry, I don't have a picture - I noticed it right before quitting and going to work. Thanks for any help that can be offered.Shawn

RE: Water height doesn't match

It is a fairly common problem, usually related to the lay of the land in the tile, and how the river runs. There are several solutions to the problem.1. Just tweak your elevations, perhaps on both tiles until you get a close enough match. You may have to tweak in fractions of a meter.2. If all else fails, use one of the wall sections to build a weir, i.e. a small dam, to hide the difference in elevation, or, if you have TSM or one of the other object creating programs, you can create your own weir longer and taller than any of the standard wall sections.I ran into this a lot on my rendition of the Blue Ridge Sub., where the CSX line follows the Nollichucky/Toe River for nearly more than 40 miles. I created a weir, really a long wall, about 40' high by about 200' in length and I center these on the seam between tiles. Not a perfect method, but it works and does not affect the operation of the SIM which is our main objective.J. H. Sullivan

A dam wouldn't really fit into the scene very well, but I'll have to play around and try to tweak it without disturbing any of the other features of the river. Thanks.Shawn

I'll check into that, but I don't know that will work because this river flows downhill Was quite the PITA to get that all set up properly in the first place...I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks.Shawn

RE: Water height doesn't match

In the routes that I have done, I think it is safe to say that getting the water right was easily the hardest thing to do. Just keep tweaking until you get a satisfying result. It is nearly impossible to exactly duplicate nature in ths SIM. Remember, we are trying for the best rendition of the route, and if it works correctly as far as running the train, that is the main point.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Water height doesn't match

This is true, and I'm doing a fictitous route, so it should be even easier to get this leveled off (pun intended). I might work on this tonight before the football game. I'll provide before and after shots if I get this done. Thanks guys.Shawn

RE: Water height doesn't match

Got it fixed. Didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would. I did notice something interesting though. Both the SE and NE values for the west tile are set to 190.8 and both the SW and NW values for the east tile are set to 198. Kind of curious, don't you think? Anyways, I've atached the before and after pictures. Thanks for the help guys!Shawn

RE: Water height doesn't match

I haven't seen this problem (though I've certainly gotten confused on which way is north, and went merrily along garbling the corner water elevations). Maybe it is a side effect of the discretization of elevation. That is to say, elevations in a tile are only 16 bits (I think), so you get 65536 possible values distributed over the range of the tile's "floor" to "ceiling" values. If adjacent tiles have large differences in floor/ceiling, then the discrete levels for each don't line up. I don't know that this would affect water, but you might have a look at it, set the two tiles to the same floor/ceiling and see if the water lines up.

RE: Water height doesn't match

I think you're compass is a touch off. From the photo, you're actually wanting the SW corner of the distant tile equal to the NW corner of the near tile, and the SE corner of the distant tile equal to the NE corner of the near tile.If you look on most maps it will tell you where North, south, east and west are.

RE: Water height doesn't match

I noticed that as well after I posted the pictures. I must have gotten disorented - or maybe my recurring case of dyslexia struck again Either way, I managed to get it fixed and not screw up any of the other water-tile joints. Maybe that is why I couldn't get it fixed in the first place - I was trying to work east-west instead of north-south.Shawn
