Hi all, didn't find feedback in Threads, but sure it has been addressed:JP2Bush3 (and the others) are flashing/shimmering like hell on approach. More sucking in view2, while from cabview one looks from closer/at other FOV.Tried Remipping, altering shine, nothing helped so far.Texture mode ? Transmat ?Who could help ?
Would like to get them quiet.Could it be a graphic setting of MSTS or my card ?
Does the same on 2 # puters using different graphic cards.Larger trees like Firs or JPtree3 are much less of a prob.Anybody ? Sniper ? Thanks ! Love and Peace

You mean the texture is not symmetric, and opposing plans are bearing non-fitting images/transparencies ?Interesting approach, thanks for this input !Will start fiddling...Could first make a symmetric texture, test it, if it is successful I should try to model myself accordingly, or apply symmetry to all seasonal textures..
EDITED: no improvement at first sight...
Just to be clear : original posting deals with DEFAULT jp2bush3, let's concentrate on this one, the others are very similar.Any more ideas ?Love and Peace

RE: JP2Bush* FLASHING Prob ?

Might be a video card issue. I have an ATI Radeon 9700 pro, and I get assorted rippling/flashing/crawling textures on some objects, but the JP2bush2 and 3 are no problem. I'm getting visible edges on them treeslope objects I uploaded recently, didn't have them before and now I do.
JP2Bush* FLASHING Prob ? – image 4Just started today, wasn't doing it yesterday. Anisotropic filtering and FSAA play a part in that type of thing, also mipmapping, zlib compression VS DXT compression, 1 bit alpha VS 8 bit alpha, you just gotta fiddle until you find the cause. Some things have no cure, any object in close proximity to the ground will ripple/flash whether it has an alpha channel or not. Terrain transfers, tarmac squares, parking lot objects, they all do that.

Hi Jim !

Logpiles, debris, roads don't flash, but they don't have transparencies.
If I come across improvements, or get suggestions from european friends, I'll let ya know !Well, if any more graphic guru wants to input, welcomeIn the meantime, have a good day Love and Peace

RE: JP2Bush* FLASHING Prob ?

The flashing is caused by the drawing order of the terrain
and object polygons. The terrain polygons actually change
height as each frame is drawn, we've all seen 'drifts' pop
on and off the track while passing a hillside. Thus, in
one frame, a terrain polygon will be drawn after an object
on it, in the next it will be below the object and not
draw. Setting error bias to zero for the sub-tile that the
object is on may help, but lowers frame rates because the
number of polygons that have to be drawn for that terrain
patch quadruples when changing error bias from 1.0 to 0.0Lloyd

RE: JP2Bush* FLASHING Prob ?

I had also run into this problem, and I've seen a similar problem discussed in the locomotive building forum. The responses I've gotten and seen about this have been mostly along the lines that this is a feature, not a bug. That is, it's something that's inherent in the program, or at least there hasn't been a fix for it figured out yet. You may want to search the locomotive design forum for transparency issues - there may be some enlightenment to be gained from their struggles with transparencies.Sorry I can't be more help than that...Andy

As this issue was still disturbing me, I dug deeper:NEW FINDINGS
------------
Not only were those JP2Bush* flashing like "&§
but they also were very bright at nightFollowing settings seem to give significantly better results:
Within the decompressed shape texture ( 0 0 0 ff000000 )and vtx_state ( 00000000 0 -9 00000002 )3rd param at -8 still lit at night !Approach should also help for similar issues with other vegetations/objects.How did I eventually find out ?
Kepner/Trego Problem Solving, learnt at a business seminar long ago...
Where is the pb: JP2bush
Where not ? US2fir1
What are the differences ?
These !Does anybody (Okrasa ? Jim ? Paul?) know more details about all this set of unexplained parameters, as Kujukluwns didn't feel the need to give us the keys ?
Love and Peace

RE: JP2Bush* FLASHING Prob ?

I think you are breaking new ground here. It's become obvious
to me that I misunderstood the nature of the problem in my
earlier post in this thread. Best of luck in your pioneering
effort and thank you for keeping us posted.Lloyd
