Aug-08-01, 06:46 PM (EST) "UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Western Coast Xpress Route Update!Hello rail fans! We've been hard at work over the past week, continuing our
development of the WCX route in Vancouver, BC, Canada. All the Stage 1
track, bridges, textures and forest objects have been laid between Hatzic
and Port Haney, and we're now working on adding the roads, buildings,
objects and sounds! We still anticipate a late-August release of Stage 1, and are working hard
to include a couple EXCELLENT custom additions - seen on our route FIRST -
and then publicly released in early September on Train-Sim.com.The Bombardier bi-level commuter rail coaches in WCX colors (thanks to John

We have posted a number of updates and photos on our growing site, and
encourage you to stop by and check us out. We are thrilled to be working
with a number of great contributors to get this route as "real" as we can.
Our contributors page is our humble attempt to thank the efforts and
contributions of these great artisans!Kern Pegg - Route Developer

Aug-09-01, 08:14 AM (EST) 1. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Thanks CPRailman - it's been irritating not having the ability to get online for the past 3 days. Company was hit by Code Red II virus and they shut down our outside internet connection to contain traffic issues.Today is the first day we've caught a "glimpse" of the outside world.More great work by John - stage 2 beta:Electro-Motive F59PHI

Now that I finally saw the thread with HAC and the drivable rear-facing view, I'll have to get ahold of him and get some testing going on with the bi-level coaches. More updates always posted on our website!Kern Pegg - Route Designer

Aug-09-01, 02:30 PM (EST) 4. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" What a great cooperative effort. Living in the U.S. I've only had the pleasure of visiting British Columbia twice... in the 1970s. Is this BC Rail Territory. Where, exactly, is the virtual route located since I don't recognize the names. (Prince Ruppert I do remember!).

Aug-09-01, 02:44 PM (EST) 6. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Our route covers a 70 mile east-west corridor that hugs the Fraser River and Burrard Inlet for most of the route. It is the route of the West Coast Express (real-life) inter-urban commuter rail service that operates along CP Rail trackage from Mission to Waterfront.Message Areas - "UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" – image 8Our re-creation of the route is using DEM data gathered from a US river that closely resembles the Fraser River (since Canadian DEM data costs $600 or more per DEM set). Message Areas - "UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" – image 9We have then taylored the terrain to better match "reality", with the help of extensive aerial photos that are available for nearly 90% of the route (great at showing buildings and tracks and sidings).Message Areas - "UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" – image 10I encourage you to visit our site and subscribe to our newsletter to keep posted on the latest developments. Glad you're finding us interesting!

Aug-09-01, 02:34 PM (EST) 5. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Sorry for the trouble .... one question. My current interest is in adding more signaling on the Marias Pass route and I'm wondering what stage or level of signaling you will have on your route...have you reached that stage yet? Any tips or trouble spots to avoid? I've added the signal masts and heads using the default models available in MSTS but can't figure out how to get them lighted (yes, I have read and reread the tech. docs on this but they confuse me even more)!

Aug-09-01, 02:49 PM (EST) 7. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Actually we are putting in our signals now (for the most part), so that we can properly test routing and traffic along the tracks. We are actually using custom signals developed by Conn McCarthy - who has recreated some great signals that closely match the real Canadian counterparts to our route.Message Areas - "UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" – image 12I would ask him for any questions you may have. We have had no problems getting the default signals to work on our route, nor have we had problems with Conn's signals.Kern Pegg

Aug-13-01, 01:29 PM (EST) 13. "RE: UPDATE on West Coast Express Route!" Don't worry, the Bombardier bi-level passenger cars AND drivable cab will be released once our first Stage of the route is released. The developers are graciously giving us "first rights" on them, and we thank them for that opportunity. We just received beta version 3 of the bi-levels, and are going to be testing them and photographing them tonight! Can't wait!<cough, cough> "Boss, I feel sick, I need to go home and play with MSTS - I mean, rest!" )Kern Pegg
