thanks guys, yes the windows, front grill, wheels, side portholes and windows are going to be transparten. as for more detail, yes I got a little more planned, "the poly count is a risin' " thought. the handrails are there, they are just scale size though, (1 1/2" dia) so they are hard to see. you can see them plain as day in the sim thought. I gotta figure out where the whistle on 6110 and 6110 were too. Oh BTW, can you all say "real 3 chime whisle sounds"? thats right I got a recording of the K-4 whisle I am using for the T-1 and it'll cary over to the K-4 when the time comes. I almost got the bugs worked out of it too. I have a K-4 Bell sounds too, but I have not started work with it yet. stay tuened T-1 fans!T-1 progress – image 24 T-1 progress – image 25 T-1 progress – image 26 T-1 progress – image 27 T-1 progress – image 28 T-1 progress – image 29 T-1 progress – image 30

She's look'n great!
Just a couple of thoughts; are you going to round of those edges on the top front of the boiler? they'er a little sharp to me. Also, what other detail are you planning to add? I got one suggestion for you, check out the pilot on this shot of #6111.
T-1 progress – image 35That's what I call Pennsylvania styling!Lastly, are you going to bring the side skirts down to the top of the steam chests? If you did, we could cut them down with the alpha layer to make shorter skirts. (I'm sorry that I've been bugging you about this, but I've not seen a reply to this question.)
OK, I'll stop nagging. The good thing is I'm running out of things to complain about! I know you can never please us perfectionists, but you're comming close! That is one stunning model, and is going to be the pride of my PRR fleet!
And don't worry about poly's so much on this locomotive. She'll be pulling passenger cars, which generally (at least with the heavyweight cars out there) don't bog down the game to much. Besides, she won't be pulling a houndred of 'em anyway. So, I'd give yourself a little leaway with that.
Keep up the wonderfull work! She looks fantastic!

allrighty, here's the scoop, smoothing out the top of the boiler wil take some massive reconstruction of the boiler, I have played with it. the skirts will come down, eventually, I want to get this verion going first. I am not going to alpha it out, because all it is going to take is streach 4 polys. as for the coupler on the front. I already have one in the plans, but first, like I said I want to get this version done frst. then I'll modify the exsisting model to make the other variations. here is a couple of update shots, windows are now see though, along with the wheels, portholes and front grill. still having alpha problems. I am not seeing the inside of my cab and the insind of the front coweling. all I am seeing is the backhead in the cab and scenery on the rest. I got the new K-4 whisle going for it, and got the cylinder drains working on both sets of cylinders.T-1 progress – image 38

You're working in Gmax, right? The alpha problem might be that you need to set the trans test (or whatever) from None to Trans, then you'll see thru properly. It looks realy good. Edit: typ0z/JonatanSteam rules!

RE: T-1 progress

Since you are using 3DC, if you set the texture transparency to 2, you should be able to get it to working correctly. I think setting it to 1 will give you what you are talking about... or it could be the other way around. I know if you set it to 0, you get no alpha's. It is either a 1 or 2 setting in the transparency that you want to get it working correctly.Anyway, the engine is definitely looking good! Mykel

RE: T-1 progress

If anyone knows if these engines still exist, then there might be a few that although stripped, would be well worth looking at. No idea where this photo was taken, but I found this on another website. Thomas Pearce,

RE: T-1 progress

Problem is the photo could be old. I have a book on Altoona that shows the RIP track full of locomotives, many of them T's. If it was anytime in the late 50's there's a good chance those babies became Toyota's.Like anything else, very little thought is given at the time to what value old junk has...How many old Matchbox cars or Ives trainsets were just tossed in the trash? I doubt anybody who actually owned a '49 Merc way back when thought much about collector value. They just wanted to get to work. Then there were all those thousands of World War 2 aircraft that became beer cans.It would've been nice if these critters had been preserved, but most railroad management is just as shortsighted as the rest of us. Only a handful of roads thought to put any of the thousands of steamers (or any other type of equipment) into storage for any reason, historical or not.Things have also changed so much that we can't build even build replicas of these giants. Cost is a major factor, but the United States has lost most of the facilities to cast the huge pieces required to recreate one of these monsters. I think the only country still building steam locomotives is China (at least they were until very recently).I read somewhere that one of the tourist railroads had purchased a locomotive in China, hoping to have the Chinese use American plans for extinct locomotives. The Chinese, however, were adamant about building their locomotive to their specs and that's what came out of it. While it would have been nice if they had produced a Milwaukee Baltic, it really would have been "just" a Chinese replica. Nothing wrong with that, but it is a little like those "fake" fiberglas or steel "antique" cars you can buy. Cool, but not quite the same as the real thing.Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

The bridge in that pic could be fairly modern, but even in the sixties,(like Kelticsylk sez),it could be somebodies pruning shears by now..
BTW,There are approx 50 nice examples of old engines at the National Transportation Museum at St Louis, which took up an afternoon for my wife and I.They have a "Big Boy" and a Burlington Pioneer Zephyr in their collection.

RE: T-1 progress

I hadn't though about the bridge in the picture...I think it is older because of the steel supports. I'm thinking a more modern highway bridge would have concrete supports.Saint Louis also has GM's Aerotrain. Trouble Pryor sent me a few pictures of the train resting in their "back lot" I know there is another Zephyr preserved at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. I believe it's 9900, the very first.Isn't the Flying Yankee preserved too?Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

Now that would be a site! It wouldn't do for a T-1 to be relegated to your typical tourist line. It would have to be let loose on the NEC or someplace where it could run.Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!
