I'm wondering if anyone experienced wants to import my CP GP9u. . . it's in 3ds format. It only has a rudimentary 3d interior, (no console, etc. . ) but other than that, it should be good to go.

I'd love to see it in the file library too. . . Problem is, I don't have any idea how to import it (and for professional reasons) not a lot of time to learn how. . . (this is why I'd like to find someone else who would like to. . .)

Perhaps get in touch with them to either help you with the conversion or get them to do it for you.Excellent model, BTW.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

If nothing more needs to be done to the model, I believe you can use the tools included with MSTS to convert it to .s and get it into the game. Just need someone to make up the rest.Mind you, I'm probably wrong.. I've no knowledge of this sort of thing. Nice model and skins btw, I love it.

RE: CP GP9U

Okay, as you can see in the screenshot below, I've decided to go ahead with trying to import it myself with GMAX. . .Problem is, it works in shape viewer, but when I try and run it in MSTS I get an error like "cannot add car (name of my loco) to world"Anyone seen this before? Know why it happens?

Yes.Best I can tell, this error has something to do with video. MS' MSTS knowledgebase says:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q302480And as usual for MS help, it is available, timely, and of absolutely no use whatsoever. (I have up-to-date drivers, and every other reference I've seen to this problem is by someone who says they have up-to-date drivers.)My assumption is that it is something I'm doing while making my loco. The polycount is 6000 (which is perfectly reasonable), and otherwise I can't see what could possibly be going wrong. (might be that my main texture is 1024x1024? Naw, other people have hi-res textures.). . .

RE: CP GP9U

Did you prepare the model's part hierarchy before exporting it to the sim? For instance: -Main1
--Hood1
--Hood2
--Cab1--Bogie1
---Wheels11
---Wheels12
--Bogie2
---Wheels21
---Wheels22If not, this is most likely the source of your problem. Let me know.Take care,Kurt

Some more questions:Does the filename for the model/.eng file/.sd file/et c. have any spaces in it? I had a locomotive with spaces in the name once and all hell broke loose. Are the correct shapes referenced in both the .eng and .sd files?CP GP9U – image 14"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. no spaces, and everything is referenced properly.I'm pretty sure I've done everything required to get this to run properly (been poring over tuts, etc.). . . is there anyone experienced with the GMAX MSTS gamepack who could look over my .gmax file and tell me what's wrong with it?

Is your shape file compressed? Dunno if it'd make a difference but y'never know.CP GP9U – image 16"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"

RE: CP GP9U

I've tried it both compressed and uncompressed. I've even gone through the file for errors (there don't seem to be any). I'm sure that the best option is to get independent verification. . . someone who is more familiar with the Gmax pack to look over my .gmax file.

I'll see about finishing it up and uploading it now. . .Apparently I had everything configured right after all. . . the problem turned out to be a corrupted material applied to the railings.
