FREDs as FreightAnims – image 1

Anyone ever considered doing this? That is, making a simple model of a FRED and applying it to any MSTS .wag as a freightanim?I should really dust off gmax sometime and give it a try, then distribite it if I find the results satisfactory...Jonathan Nikiforovs.

Nope, not as a freightanim.I think the best way to do it is how MLT does...by making the FRED an actual "car". That way, it's easier to always have it on the end of the consist, and is not dependant on the car you've "installed" it on.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

Freightanim is a good idea though! on MLT's, the fred bounces around unrealistitly. Its a great model though

RE: FREDs as FreightAnims

Problem is, what if you have freight cars of different lengths? A FreightAnim shape must have the exact same origin point as the model it is added to, so what are you going to have to do - make a separate FRED shape for every possible length of car?Sounds like MLT's idea is probably the best, provided the physics are adjusted so it acts more like it's stuck to the last car. Not having seen it for myself, I don't know for sure.FREDs as FreightAnims – image 6

You can displace the second shape any way you want. I think you can rotate it, too, but I could be making that up (probably). RE: FREDs as FreightAnims

With the FreightAnim tag? The only adjustable parameter I'm aware of in the tag is being able to (sort of) set the height of the second shape. Everything I've ever read says you need to model your added shape so the origin matches that of the model it's being added to - and there's no way of setting the rotation of the shape from within the .eng file. Otherwise, as this next poster said, the only way to move the shape for different car lengths is to use SFM to shift it as necessary.FREDs as FreightAnims – image 9

RE: FREDs as FreightAnims

I have done that for several cars using the MLT Fred shape. You have to make a new Fred shape file for each length of car and adjust where it sits with Shape File Manager. I have gone back to just using the MLT Fred car instead of taking the time to make new "Fred" cars for all the different end of consists.Rob "Zeke" ZychOshawa,Ont.

>john i saw that weyland yutani logo. i was wondering are you in to
>the movie aliens?Yes, actually: Of the first two movies, the military equipment buff in me says that my favorite would be Aliens...However, as far as I'm concerned, only the first 2 movies even exist, as Alien 3 sucked and Resurrection sucked even harder (AvP wasn't bad though, but it doesn't really count in this sense).
