RE: Help!!How to make the model's edges & corners smoot

I'm sure there is an easier way to do it but this is the way I do it.Fit a cylinder with the desired radius (and single segment) between the 2 parts you want to round. Then remove all non required polygons from the cylinder.Attach whats left of the cylinder to your part.Clean up the overlap of the original part by 'polygon pulling' and welding vertices or making new ones.Hope the pix help explain.

RE: Help!!How to make the model's edges & corners smoot

It really depends on how rounded you want the edge. Yes, the cylinder looks nice, but it takes a lot of work. GMAX has a feature called "chamfer". Go ahead and build your box with its squared edges. Now select the edge you want rounded. You did convert the object to an editable mesh already--right? With your edge selected, go to the chamfer rollout, use a value such as .05 and apply the chamfer. Now, don't touch anything, just change the value in chamfer to .02 and apply this operation again. It could be (.005 and .002)--you'll have to experiment. What just happened was that the originally selected edge was separated into two edges .05m apart. And then these two new edges were separated into four new edges. This is generally enough to smooth your edges. But you're not finished yet. Go and apply autosmooth--this operation blends the contours. It's really not as complicated as it seems here. It's an operation, once learned, which will come in handy time and time again. And you're only working with your original object--not a box and a cylinder. If you still have questions about this, continue this thread and I'll post some pics as soon as I can.Dave
