Hello all-
I've been messing with Gmax and finally made my first model, though I ran into a few sizing issues (as can be seen below). How would I go about scaling it down? Thanks!- - Nick Wilson

RE: Decreasing The Size Of An Object In Gmax

1. Ensure all parts of the object are an 'editable mesh'
2. Highlight the object and goto the Modify Tab.
3. Select 'Vertex Select Mode'
4. Run a bounding box around your object to select all Vertices
5. Click the 'Selection Lock Toggle' in case you accidently unselect some or all vertices.
6. Select 'Uniform Scale' and scale to whatever size you want.
7. When finished ensure that the pivot point for 'main' is still in the correct position.
8. Export the model again.Note: Scaling parts which are not editable meshes can cause problems when trying to export the models from GMAX.I work in metric units to start off with so there are no scaling issues. If you are using imperial measurements do a search for other posts relating to working in imperial units then exporting in metric.Hope this helps.

I leave my measurements in metric when using GMAX There is a English to Metric conversion chart in the FL that i created To help convert inches and feet to metric unitsgood luck and keep trying

You don't need to select and scale down the vertices. Just select the object(s) - select the uniform scale tool - scale the object down to the size you want - go to the tools panel and with the object still selected RESET XFORM. In these 3D programs when you scale something up or down it doesn't actually take that physical size until the XForms are reset to match the objects new size... and it will flip any normals to their correct state. You really don't need to make it complicated by scaling the vertices... =|GoldenPig

Parden my ignorance, but where is the uniform scale tool in Gmax? I found the Reset XForm thing without any trouble, but can't find the uniform scale tool for some reason.- - Nick Wilson

Ah yes, that helps immensely. Thanks for the walk-through Danny (nice job on the ATSF SD40-2 btw...can't wait for that pack to come out!). Here's a screenshot below of the final result (thew in the SD60F as a size comparison, though I don't think the placement of the box is the best choice...).- - Nick Wilson

Sheez, that looks nice!Personally I never scale an entire object, but that's simply a holdover from my FS experience. In FS, you will get loads of errors if you don't scale in the modifier stack (i.e. vertex or polygon mode). Also, when it comes time to animating, it causes MakeMDL crashes which are little (read: no) fun.So I guess it's an old habit of mine.Meh, irrelevant post.Decreasing The Size Of An Object In Gmax – image 13"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on.
