There were a series of threads on this in the archives and it does not seem to be a particular problem to incorporate a booster into the simulator, just name it as an Engine, rather than a Wagon and all is well.Or is it?The boosters usually ran in full gear forward on/off configuration and operated up to a predetermined speed before shutting down automatically or manually. This usually happened around 15mph since if it did not the steam production of the boiler could not keep up with demand. The problem is how do you get a "helper" unit to shut down above a predetermined speed?
Set the MaxVelocity parameter to whatever speed you want the booster to shut off at. I'm not sure how it works with steam, but with diesel and electrics the tractive effort goes linearly from 100% at MaxVelocity to 0% at MaxVelocity + 5 m/sec. Granted, this isn't a sharp cutoff, but it's the best you can do with MSTS.
This looks as if it may be a possibility, another thought is to explore if some of the sound file triggers for the exhaust could also serve this purpose
