Thanks for ponting that out. It was only 8 feet wide. Heres and update. All I have left to do on the model is set up the part parents and perfect the texturing. I hope to get it into the sim tonight and then, make new 710 sounds and then finish the textures.-NickCentral Illinois Locomotive Works Founder

As Pete says, BNSF DOES NOT exactly use Cooper Black. The official font style is a bit difficult to find (I have the font but ain't gonna give it to anyone anytime soon) but Pete's ATSF font is perfect for what you want.Austin

I know this is still a project in the makings but the unit looks to be taller than what I see in the pics that I have. The blower duct is way to small. It Should extend upward more to the air intake.Should also be a hump behind the air intake.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastGP60B – image 18

A couple things need to be done to that model.1. The fuel tank needs to be totally redone, to include the air tank and the correct Fuel Tank shape.2. Need to fill the gap between the hood and the ends so you can't see through the locomotive.Ted Curphey

RE: GP60B

GP60B – image 41

and raise the frame to the height of Danny's model, since after all, the GP60 series shared the same frame.. then the fans are too big still, air intake too small, and blower duct too short as Claude has pointed out in his last 3-4 replies, your dynamic brake grid should be larger. Look at Danny's shape and get ideas. His has it right.

RE: GP60B

All B-units have hostler's controls which allow inside and outside locomotive shop hostlers to move the B-unit while uncoupled from a unit with a control cab. Railroad rules require that the engine bell be rung before commencing any movement on inside or outside designated shop tracks, and in some cases be rung continuously until the movement has come to a complete stop or until it has moved beyond shop track limits. A safety necessity, in fact. Hence the necessity for an engine bell on B-units.

RE: GP60B

Ok oakwaysd60.Please take a look at the GP60B real closely. The hump above the air intake is missing from your model.Take a look at the handrail and stanchion placement on the blower duct side of the unit.On the pics that I have there are two short stanchions after which the handrail angles up and there are two long stanchions. The handrail does not cross the blower duct as is portrayed on your unit. You may want to take a look at the dynamic brake housing also. You need to square the housing more.As stated previous take your time and put out a good quality model. You have all the help that you need right here to produce a good model. You're doing a good job at making the changes. Please continue to do so.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastGP60B – image 47

Here is a profile of the EMD fuel tank that you need to use on this model. Also the air hose on the end need to be moved down so that the top of them are midway down the end plate, and the coupler needs to be scaled in half.Ted Curphey

Well technically there is a downward angle that allows room for the air reservoirs. This is typically the shape that I use unless the drawings I work from provide otherwise... and this is just a quick rough out so you get an idea of just the tank shape... hope it helps. RE: GP60B

(In Response To oakwaysd60's Screenshots)It's definitely looking really good, just keep working on it until you're completely happy, as Danny said. I'd say work on the fuel tank some more for starters. Just find some good shots of them and work from there. It might take a while, but the results will definitely be worth it. Anyways, back to work (reskinning while listening to some Metallica - man, I love weekends).- - Nick Wilson

Awsome work! It's definitely looking good now. Dynamic brakes look good, so do the fans. Fuel tank could still use a bit of work though (it looks like the air resivour is sticking out to the side of the unit - just supposed to be housed underneath the walkway). Anyways, looking good & looking forward to your progress on it!- - Nick Wilson

Hi. I just thought Id post another update and give everyone a sneek peak into waht going on with the geeps. Well, the sounds have been started but all I have is the 710 sounds done. There will be two numbers in each pack. the first pack will be 334 and 325. The BNSF pack will be, well, i haven't decided yet. (If you want, tell me what you would like. 342 will be one because It was the first and only GP60B I saw.) Also, I plan to do a GP60M too. I started it but the mapping was very hard. Its not even close to being done. I was going to do a GP60 but Dick Cowen already did a very good one. Thats all for now. Heres some pics.-NickCentral Illinois Locomotive Works Founder

RE: GP60B

You're definately getting somewhere with the model. The fuel tank looks great except for a texture problem on one side where they don't match up, creating a line. You also have a texture problem on the dynamic brake grid. The only major problem right now is that you need to move the handrails out so they attach to the side of the walkway, and not on top of it. I would also suggest that you rework the stair steps ont he ends so that the steps are thinner, and that they have a backstop (look at Danny's model for reference). But your getting closer.Ted Curphey

RE: GP60B

Yeah, you need to add the exhaust grills to the top of the model. Also, I'd suggest lightening up the grills on the sides a bit (they look almost black now, can't really see any of the rods going up & down on them). Anyways, below is a roofshot of a GP60B. You need one more exhaust opening on the hump after the dynamic brake housing. Also the handrail prior to the blower duct needs to be raised to accomodate two long stanchions. There should be two short stanchions and two long stanchions as depicted in the pics provided.Again take a look at Danny's model and the picture that was provided. They are excellent reference pics for ya. RE: GP60B

I only see two problems left with the unit. First off, the fuel tank is silver/grey (easy fix). The other thing is the handrails in front of the blower duct underneath the dynamic braking. The elevated walkway needs to come a bit further out, plus the bend in the handrail should be halfway between the start of the handrail and the blower duct itself. I've included some images as well. Other than that, it looks great! I'd say to fix those two things and it's pretty much ready for release to the public. Thanks again for all your efforts! All of us really appreciate it.- - Nick Wilson

The handrail and stanchion placement forward of the blower duct is still wrong. There should be two small stanchions, then the handrail angles up followed by two long stanchions. You only have three stanchions, one small and two long.I know this is frustrating and hard work but please refer to the reference pics to help you along the way.As stated in previous post don't rush your work.Release it when it is ready to be released. You do have an excellent model but there is still work that needs to be done. One other thing the main air line is in the wrong location.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastGP60B – image 119

As was said before, the handrail before the duct needs to be fixed. Look at the pictures and digrams I posted earlier in the thread. As for sounds, these units tend to have a signature whine to them (find some videos/sounds online of them and you'll see what I mean). I'm sure ATSF fans can back me up on this one. You still need to move the handrails out so that they attach to the outside of the walkway and not on top of it. I think you should also redo the stairwells, but that's just me. The coupler is probably too high as well.Ted Curphey

engine looks fairly good but please get rid of one of the MU hoses. you have 4, i dont think any engines have had 4 since, well, almost forever. modern diesels only have 3 on each side of the coupler. also, on the front and maybe on the back, the grab irons are on the wrong side. The cooling fans up on top could use some texture work. Also, every access door on the hood of your unit has a latch, i know they dont all on the real engine.
Please dont forget a coupler cut bar.
Its a nice general model, now its just the details that need work.

well hey now thats looking MUCH better. Note the grab irons are yellow iirc, and i believe just the ends of the coupler bar are yellow, the rest is silver. but yes it looks much better with just those couple of fixes.
any chance of making the grab irons drop so they dont just look like little handles? I dont know how hard all this modeling is so im just wondering.keep up the good work!

Hey its looking really good now. Final thing I think will make a HUGE difference is the end pilots. Look at the photo how the walkway comes out like on a GP50 and what not, how it extendout over the coupler and how the handrails come out over it, they dont just go straight across. If you fix that, the model will really be sweet. Id be glad to help with texturing in details and stuff if you want.looks good, keep it up!!!Kevin V.
