Get Conbuilder from the File Library, that is the easiest and most painless way to alias cabs and/or sounds for your locomotives....I believe there is even a new version out in the last day or so....Frank

Conbuilder is OK for aliasing sounds, but you can't alias things that are already aliased using Conbuilder. This sounds confusing, and I'll try not to confuse you more by explaining what I mean. I'll start first with some definitions. The .eng file in your folder is pretty much the file that tells a locomotive how to run or behave in the sim. There is information in here related to lights, sound, power, braking, etc. The .sms file is what details all of the sound information for the loco. It might or might not be included in the locomotive folder (will not be, if the loco is aliased). If a locomotive is already aliased, you can't alias another loco to it in Conbuilder. For instance, you can't use Conbuilder to alias the sounds from an MLT loco because those locos use aliases themselves. In order to view and edit an .eng file or .sms file, you need to open it in a unicode text editor (Wordpad is simplest). Probably the easiest thing to do is open up the .eng file of a payware loco (Dekosoft, MLT) or one of NALWs locos. Search for the sound lines (one for engine and one for cab). This will give you the basic structure for aliasing sounds manually (i.e. will show you where to put all of the "//" and "..."). If you find sounds you like, what you can do then is create your own "sound alias" text file. Name it whatever you want, and then copy all of the aliased sound lines from the .eng files into your new text file. Whenever you want to alias a new loco, open up the text file and copy/paste the aliased sound lines from it and overwrite the "default" ones of the .eng file. Creating "custom" aliases is a little more difficult, so practice with ready made ones first.
