Finally after over six months, the upgraded version of the GE 25 ton diesel switch engine is almost ready. This version is a complete rebuild and features the following:
All new improved and (far) more accurate shape
Completely new texture map set
Loads of details
Rebuilt 3D virtual cab view
Proto-typically accurate
The original version, LRS #150, was one of my first models. This one is the culmulation of over 3 years of experience building MSTS models, and to be perfectly frank, their is a definite qualitative difference between the two versions. Both models were built using TSM.Final details are in progress and the model should be ready for release this weekend. I am currently looking at doing a custom cab view for the model, but other than that it is almost all done.Comments and feedback welcome. Great lookin model there,Almost scared to ask if there's anything smaller in the GE category that will make this thing look like a behemoth. Now, for parking, could the crew subtitute an Athearn HO Scale box for the roundhouse, or no?If you are interested in further ideas, The Broad Top RR has a similar engine, but built by Plymouth. ... and here she is, the upgraded LRS 150 on her debut run.I think the Plymouth one has been done as payware on the 3Dtrains.com site. However, I there are several other types in this genre that has not been done that I might have a crack at later.

Thanks ... actually there will be a choice of cabviews. A static non animated one for the main cabview ( top pic ) - I don't have the software to make a proper cab with - and my favorite type of cab, a 3D virtual cab ( bottom pic ).

I had one of those too (Athearn Hustler) - the trick to getting that one running ( relatively ) smoothly was to yank the rubber band out and add a new gear set.One of the big problems with the MSTS version, and this is a problem I've noticed primarily with smaller models, is setting up the bounding boxes correctly. Because of the relatively light weight of the loco, when slowing down, visually you have the coupler of the freight car behind push right through the hustler's couplers into the hustler's body. The only workaround I've found is to set the bounding box z-axis dimensions to be fixed at the center of the couplers. This, however, assumes that all the other cars are set up the same way too. But, there is a lot of inconsistency with where the boundary box limits are set. I've seen them set at the limits of a model's body, somewhere within the model's body, at the outer limits of the couplers and there are other variations too. What I had to do, with almost all the models I've downloaded, was to reset the boundries of the bounding boxes at the center of the coupler (which is a big pain). The problem is not so noticable on bigger models, which is probably why most people don't notice it. However, it is very apparent with smaller units like the hustler. Hopefully, at some point, everyone can agree at a "standard" at where the bounding box boundaries should be set. Even Kuju is inconsistent - or in most cases the worse offender - most of the original Kuju US freight cars have couplers that are way too high compared with the prototype (as much as a foot off).
