The Mountain became Santa Fe – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-04 AT 09:52 PM (EDT)

The Mountain became Santa Fe – image 2Looks way better now, bigger boiler and cylinders and slightly bigger drivers. Engine almost done texturing, textures are basic as I'll add all details on them after I'm done modeling.I've decided to add things like handrails, pipes and stuff as a freightanim so I'd need help on that. There will be a sister engine #2673 which has smoke deflectors and oil tender./JonatanSteam rules!

OK ok, so "Macbeth" is a hated thing (don't know why! could someone fill me in on that?) but it's for my Star Fox 64 Macbeth route I'm making and that's why it got "MACBETH" on it's tenderside. But if yer unhappy with it I'll slap some ATSF on there instead...Edit: typo (damn these thick fingers!!) /JonatanSteam rules!

Sure, on the version I'll upload that is. I'll keep my current lettering for my own use though.EDIT: The position of the airpumps and headlighs, is that feasable or not? And if ATSF (or other railroad) did have Santa Fe's looking just like this one what numbers did they have? And what do I have to so the textures doesn't look so pixel-ish in Gmax?/JonatanSteam rules!

That's done on all textures already and I have this with all models when they are in Gmax, they look good in the sim. Bah, it doesn't bother so much but it ruins the quality of the image a bit./JonatanSteam rules!

Under the Customize>Preferences menu on the Viewports tab there is a place where you can change the driver settings, and increase the texture resolution IIRC.

Maybe, but the front is not very Santa Fe like. I'm not a big stickler for authenticity, but there are several out there. And I'm sure they'll bash your nice work if it isn't super authentic for Santa Fe.

Here is the best pic I could find online of a Santa Fe 2-10-2. As you can see it is very different from your steamer.
The Mountain became Santa Fe – image 37It is from a very good site for Baldwin steam pictures, check it out at http://www.leclairerail.com/baldwin1.htmlI'd really just keep the loco the way you made it for your route. It's your loco and you should keep it the way you like it. But I wouldn't mind seeing another big Santa Fe steamer. So if you do make a Santa Fe textured one, I'd like to see it.Keep it up The Mountain became Santa Fe – image 38

Under the Viewports tab youll find the "Configure Driver" button on the bottom-right. In there you can increase the texture reslolution, just play around with the settings until you get the results you want. Here is a screenshot of my steam loco with the bitmap resolutions set to the highest. The Mountain became Santa Fe – image 39Edit:fixed the broken picture link

Stetrain, thanks, it works now. SouthwestChief, yes I think I'll keep her as is and she was meant to be a freelanced 2-10-2 so there realy can't be no prototype. But hey, atleast it's the first 2-10-2 for MSTS. /JonatanSteam rules!

This is her current state. About 9000 polys with tender. Knowing from earlyer models I've done Gmax don't seem to like multiple LODs without crashing so I'll only have one LOD on 1000 meters. But here she is, only the couplers (and some other minor things I can't think of now) to go and the boiler piping will be done as freightanim./JonatanSteam rules!

Well I gotta say you don't mess around do ya? you go from a simple four wheeled critter and then jump right in with the big boys and tackle steam, you sir, are either the bravest fella or the craziest. All kidding aside that is one darn nice looking steamer there,as far as the Macbeth name, don't be ashamed or explain, it maybe "violent" but it's also a classic work of litrture.
About the only things I would suggest is (1) go with the single head light that was pretty much the standard and (2) try shortening the tender just a bit, the water compartment seems just a bit long in comparison to the prototype pic so it just kind of looks awkward.
Please don't take this as my ripping your work(as I've said darn good looking job so far)but take it simply as some constructive pointers offered only in helping to put out a better project.Gary S

I'm the crazyest of them all, that's for sure! LOL!!Nah but I've been modeling for some time now and I'm a very fast learner so it was only a matter of time.I've decided to make this a freelanced steamer and as the Macbeth route I'm making is quite poor on water and coal stops are rare that longhaul tender is very much needed. Thanks for the tips though. I've gotten it into the sim now, there are some glitches but I'll fix those, just wanted to see if she made it through at all. Played with the .eng file in the lighting section to get that stack glow./JonatanSteam rules!

Since you've obviously got this steam thing down IIRC I'd come across a couple of websites with blueprints for various locos including a Milwaukee Road S class 4-8-4 would that be something you'd be interested in enough for me to go digging through my bookmark list for?Gary S

I have to admit, that is a really nice looking steamer ya got there. Love the stack glow. Are you going crazy with details, such as like saftey tread walkway, grab bar for front coupler etc or no? just wondering. That is a beautiful model. Love it! Power to ya.

Thanks,

Gary, it'll be a while 'till I will build actual prototypic stuff, haven't cared for following blueprints all my life realy as my head's the only blueprint I need. Jim, Crazy with details? Maybe. What's currently on the list is to fix the opaque 2nd and 4th wheels and the "hovering tender" and give the crew somewhere to sit down in the cab. But I'll see if I'll add grab bars.Edit: Thanks for liking my loco, guys! =D/JonatanSteam rules!

RE: The Mountain became Santa Fe.

jonatan as per your request......Probably composed in late 1606 or early 1607, Macbeth is the last of Shakespeare's four great tragedies, the others being Hamlet, King Lear and Othello. It is a relatively short play without a major subplot, and it is considered by many scholars to be Shakespeare's darkest work. Lear is an utter tragedy in which the natural world is amorally indifferent toward mankind, but in Macbeth, Shakespeare adds a supernatural dimension that purposively conspires against Macbeth and his kingdom. In the tragedy of Lear, the distraught king summons the goddess of Chaos, Hecht; in Macbeth, Hecate appears as an actual character. On the level of human evil, Shakespeare's Scottish tragedy is about Macbeth's bloody rise to power, including the murder of the Scottish king, Duncan, and the guilt-ridden pathology of evil deeds generating still more evil deeds. As an integral part of this thematic web is the play's most memorable character, Lady Macbeth. Like her husband, Lady Macbeth's ambition for power leads her into an unnatural, phantasmagoric realm of witchcraft, insomnia and madness. But while Macbeth responds to the prophecies of the play's famous trio of witches, Lady Macbeth goes even further by figuratively transforming herself into an unnatural, desexualized evil spirit. The current trend of critical opinion is toward an upward reevaluation of Lady Macbeth, who is said to be rehumanized by her insanity and her suicide. Much of this reappraisal of Lady Macbeth has taken place in discussions of her ironically strong marriage to Macbeth, a union that rests on loving bonds but undergoes disintegration as the tragedy unfolds. lucio moreira

RE: The Mountain became Santa Fe.

Hi, Jonatan!First of all: Your 2-10-2 looks awesome! She's so hot!!! In MSTS, U.S. steamers are equipped with air brakes. As a suggestion for the physics, have a look at the zip file I attached to this post. It contains one of my steam engine's eng files at it's latest stage of messing about, including many physics changes suggested in this forum, most of them by Bob Boudoin and Jean-Louis Chauvin. My only experience of being in a cab of a real RR engine was a 500 yard ride in a railroad museum some years ago, so I really can't tell how prototypical it is. However, it definetly *feels* a lot more realistic (and is much more challenging) than the default settings.Michael
