Hello folks,I'm looking for a scanned .jpg orthgraphic side-view of the MPI MP36 - preferably an original MPI sheet or paint-shop 'blueprint' that is as accurate as can be. (The kind used in the backround grid of TSM to scale and adjust your model). If you do have one, please let me know on this thread. I will respond via P.M.Thank you very much.Take care,Kurt

RE: MP36 Orthgraphic 'blueprints' wanted

I don't know of any blueprints, but railpictures.net has some good side shots. I tried making an MP36 about a month ago but I couldn't get the nose and roof to look right. Good luck!C h r i sMP36 Orthgraphic 'blueprints' wanted – image 1

>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F40C FIRST!!!!!!!!!I liked those old F40's, but being able to drive the MP36 in MSTS would be a very unique experience. I say why doesn't somebody make both?

For now someone could easily repaint the FP45 into Metra colors, later someone could make a proper F40C.It's something I would be willing to make, although I have no plans and hate just using photos. It wouldn't be the best work anyway. They are similar to SDP40F's, except they have HEP instead of steam generators and have those sleek chrome sides. As for MP36's, CalTrain also has a few.Oh ya ns sd70 we do have other Metra engines in the library.C h r i sMP36 Orthgraphic 'blueprints' wanted – image 9

Well, if Kurt makes an MP36, you can rest assure I will make 9/10ths of my consists like they were when the pieces of junk were testing:
F40C followed by an MP36 and 7 or so cars.

Do the F40C and F40PH have any relation to each other at all? I'm curious, as they seem nothing alike.MP36 Orthgraphic 'blueprints' wanted – image 15"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"

The F40C is much, much closer to the MP36 than you'd think. With the exception of the computers in the MP, they are almost identical inside.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

Hello fellows,Yes - www.ctrgroup.net and I will be working on the MP36PH-3S as a joint project. I might make the Caltrain PH-3C variant as well. The blueprint would be used solely for the proper scaling and positioning of the locomotive in the modeling program - that's it. Chessie, I once had a paint-shop diagram of a C&NW Dash 9...if I didn't lose it in one of the HD crashes, maybe you would like to trade? Yes John...you'll get your F40C! I posponed the v3.0 GE B40-8 and -8Ws I was working on, just to make the F40C. It will come...have patience!Take care,Kurt

RE: MP36 Orthgraphic 'blueprints' wanted

Hello Bill!Yep - that GP40X should be out by Monday at the latest...if my computer doesn't explode in my face as usual I've seen the UP version - doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the NS high-hood variant, although I'm not doing either - only the SF version.Usually I don't spill the beans about what I have in store...but I will today:#1 MP36PH-3S (we all know that!)
#2 F40C
#3 B40-8 v4.0
#4 B40-8W v3.0
#5 F59PH v2.0There isn't going to be the last 4 unless I get these MP36 plans though...looks like I might have to bargain a bit with Chessie Take care,Kurt

Hello Jeffrey,I don't have plans to release more roadnumbers for the B&O GP40-2, but I might release the Chessie skin without a roadnumber for those who may want to re-number the unit.Take care,Kurt

Had some auto-installer complications, which were compounded by a lack of cooperation from my beta team. Only one beta tester came back with a report - thankfully, it passed the test.It should be up sometime tonight or tomorrow, if all goes well.

THe MP36PHI-3, the F40C Killer! I hate the MP36s, they look to streamlined, go F40Cs!According to my Field Guide to Trains, F40Cs are closely related to the SDP40F/SDF40-2.

and the metra engines use the long gone 645F engine (which is not made anymore) the 645F is now being built by GE, meeting all standards. but the caltrains use the catapilar engine

No not really, just shows GE knows that EMD's product is superior, same goes with GECX, the rebuild SD40-2s, why not C30-7s?

Oy, so much misinformation...First off, the PM's in all of the MP36's are built new by a GE subsidiary in Poland. IIRC, they are called something like 645FZ.Metra's units have the HEP generated from a static invertor plugged into the end of the drive shaft of the PM, so when HEP is engaged the total horsepower available at the wheels is decreased to somewhere around 3100hp. Thus they are called MP36-3S (S for Static invertor).Caltrain's units get their HEP from a separate Cat-powered engine mounted just aft of the PM, and so they always have their 3600hp available for traction. That's also why they are 3 feet longer. They are designated MP36-3C (C for Cat HEP package).DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.
