For those wishing to build an early electric loco in TSM, I have uploaded my project files for the General Electric "Slide Trolley" Pantograph. This tsmpan1.zip includes the .dst and .bmp files ready to be dropped into the TSM/Projects folder. It is the model I used on the Milwaukee Road boxcabs and "Little Joes", and also has been modified for use on smaller interurban motors by selective compression. The side-guards can be easily removed in poly mode and saved for later use, or just deleted. The model comes detail-textured using 4 small texture maps, but the modeller can choose to use just one or two to increase frame-rate performance.Although not animated, the parts are arranged and pivoted to be animated if the modeller is so inclined. Also, as this is a project file, and so a self-contained model, it will be necessary to save each and every part in your loco's project folder, to be used as parts. It is my hope that others will benefit from using this model to expedite their own creations. Cheers!Tim
This too will be available in the form of parts (.dsp files): This comes in "kit" form, to be assembled by loading the included parts in any order. All bitmaps are included, being 2 64x64 and 1 256x256 .bmps. The pilot will assemble about ten feet forward of the pivot point, but can be moved all in one piece by selecting all parts by pressing the "A" key, then dragging it along the Z axis to position ( Constrain the Y and X axis movement). Deselect by pressing "Shift+U".Tim
Hey Tim,Thank you very much for your recent uploads of TSM projects. Your work is very, very welcome.Perhaps you already have done this, but if not, please give some thought towards building a rolling stock frame with existing coupler, air hose, and coupler lifters.I have attempted to build these things using TSM, but my poly counts become so high, I sorta lose momentum. This is one reason why I favor so much the boxcars made by Larry Goss, who uses GMAX. I have not yet learned how to build a car with LOD's in the model. But a stock 40 and 50 foot framework would be a real blessing for those of us who can paint but not build. In any event, thanks again!Bill Cline
Hi Bill,You're very welcome for the TSM file uploads. I don't know if you've been reading my posts down in the Traction forums, but I've decided to hang up my hat building models until further notice. This is why you're seeing alot of my project and part files in the library these days. A combination of burnout and pressing real-world priorities is the reason. You have a good idea, though. A basic frame, draft gear, and brake equipment would be a boon to builders. As far as LODs, I'm one of those nuts that prefer high details at all viewing distances. There's nothing that drives me more crazy, than to see half a loco disappear at distance. I'd rather loose a couple of FPS than half an engine, or the wheels off a freight car. So, I just leave the LODS off my things.By the way, I want to thank you for all your fine re-paints. They are the best!Cheers!Tim
OK, Tim. And I certainly respect your inclination to get away from modeling for awhile. Having searched on your name in the Library, I sure do know your contributions have been many and gratefully received. And thanks for your observation re LOD's. Takes a load off my mind and I may just do what you suggested and build TSM frame models that others can use. I just hate to see boxcar after boxcar with just the coupler sticking out. Looks naked. (Not that there is anything wrong with "naked"...)Best of luck to you!Bill
