RE: Danger Danger! Shark attack 2!

Hi,Here is official news of the shark nose units they are done and are now being packaged and beta tested. The delay in their release was regretable and had mostly to due with summer. It's warm and sunny and myself and the other Nalw members like to enjoy it with our families. I am greatfull you all have been patient with us and what must seem as our endless waits. The other route cause for the delay is that I have been busy with my second job as engine man on #611 on the Canton Suddenly RR. Again thanks for your patience I hope that when released ( I give no date as I don't want to force a dedline on others volunteer efforts ) that those who download them find the units to be worth the wait and as fun to use as they were to create.

That's good! (I er, was personally wondering if one of those sharks had eaten you while your back was turned, sort of a Jaws meets Deep Blue Sea moment.) I'm certain that they'll do quite nicely alongside an A-B-A set of FF16s in DGLE for PRR service. 'preciate your work.

Heh heh heh. Some satellite TV provider has resurrected the voice of that to bash cable operators. It's a classic, eh.

That first batch of Not Ready For Primetime Players was by far the best grouping of talent and writers for SNL, when they swapped out the whole crew for that second batch and since SNL has just been dying a slow long death.Gary S

Well, it has been a long time. My liking for MSTS has not dulled like some people. I keep an open mind, Usually. I wanted to keep this topic, the shark noses up and running. So, at least the fans of the Shark noses can keep updated. Oh yea, taking off the project for a while, well, I have done that as well. So, it happens to the best of us

>Well.....? What are shark nose units? They are carbody diesel locomotives that Baldwin built in the early 1950's that had a unique nose design to distinguish them from EMD and Alco's locomotives. PRR and D&H were two railroads that bought them.

RE: Danger Danger! Shark attack 2!

Shark Noses were Baldwin's locomotives. They had 1600 hp. there engines were turbo charged, giving it that much more horse power.

Yep the D&H had a couple of Ex Monongahela, Ex NYC units (1 Pair) running - Just like they had a couple of PAs running earlier....
All still exist, I just don't remember what their current status is... IIRC the PAs were in Mexico for a while and got some of that FINE NAFTA maintenance down there and maybe junk now??????Chuck Schneider

RE: Danger Danger! Shark attack 2!

IIRC, two came back to the States for restoration, and a third has ended up in the Smithsonian, restored to the ATSF Warbonnet scheme. The fourth - and at the time, the only serviceable unit - stayed in Mexico. I haven't heard anything else for a few years. -Phil

Ahhh, the PA - now you're talking my talk! Here's the skinny on the PAs - a fine gentleman by the name of Doyle McCormack (one of THE best locomotive restoration experts in the world!) rescued two PAs from the cutting torch a while back. He had them transported to his neck of the woods to begin restoration on them.Of course they came back sans running gear or motive power, so these parts were scavenged from an old BC Rail Alco. Doyle is currently bringing back one of the PAs into FULL operating condition (Nickel Plate Road 190). The second of the two will be completely refinished in the Santa Fe Warbonnet scheme (shell only - it will never likely run again) to be housed in the Smithsonian once it is completed. If you are interested in the progress of NKP 190, check out http://www.nkp190.com/. It's a site dedicated to following the reconstruction of one of the world's most handsome locomotives.Brian.

Yep and the D&H PAs, ex AT&SF PA-1s, were in need of a heavy rebuilding and restoration when the D&H got them IIRC and as a consequence their 244-20 series prime movers were unservicable and got replaced with MLW 251-16s thus becoming, in specification at least, the PA-4 that Alco cataloged but never built...
How's that for trivia? Chuck Schneider

Alco PA-1's 17 and 19 are in running order but they are on display in Mexico at a museum likely never to run again.
