Anyone sitting on a modern Alco FA/FB ENG file? I'm particularly partial towards the PRR's 1600HP FA- & FB-2s, so if anything like that's floating about, I'd appreciate y'all passing it along.

Here is a modern Alco FA .eng file (although using the term modern does not seem to fit a FA...hehe). This is for the lead unit. For "B" units the friction line might be substituted: 1184N/m/s -0.10 1.3mph 5.75N/m/s 1.83 Bob Boudoin
Hehe indeed. I didn't think about the inherent contradiction in terms until after posting it, but I figured leave it for the comedy. I vaguely remembered rumors of problems with one of the FAs and its ENG, so I figured that I had better not get adventurous in trying to roll my own.Once again, you've saved the day on my ancient diesel collection.

Thanks Bob, you can't believe how hard I have tried to find a good engine file for the FA. Like pulling teeth. Now if I could find a good B unit loco to go with the A unit I would be happy. Any suggestions? Thanks again Bob for that. Much appreciated! Tim"May the great BNSF 38 pumpkin carry you to your new home, Cyndi and may you engineer her for an eternity"
Hi Tim, The B units will be very close if you just change three things, first: set the friction line to: 1184N/m/s -0.10 1.3mph 5.75N/m/s 1.83 then change the mass to about 101.5 metric tons. then the value for: MaxForce ( 255.7kN )to MaxForce ( 252.0kN ) That should do it. John, My appologies, I didn't read your post carefully enough, I am sorry! I note you wanted values for 1,600 HP units, and I gave you for 1,500 HP units I had in my trainset. For 1,600 HP units change the parameter: MaxPower ( 917.6kW ) to MaxPower ( 973.5kW ) This is adjusted for transmission efficiency, which is how V4.7 files handle power at the rail. I used to do this differently in a simplfied way, but this is more accurate as transmission efficiency varies from about 81% in oldest diesels to about 92% in modern AC units. I used 81.5% for the Alcos here. As long as weight is the same the other things will not change significantly, since the same traction motors are used. Hope this helps, Bob
