I just bought 3d CANVAS PRO and I would like to get started in creating locomotives and cars with it. Being a newbie to this software I understand the the original dash9 files are available either on the MSTS CD or on a web site. Could someone help me to locate said files and perhaps give me a fast tutorial on how to open the files in 3d Canvas Pro? Thanks.
It's in the Train Simulator/Samples folder. They're .3ds files, the Scotsman is there too. You'll need to use either the open or import option.-Stetson
I'll second what Paul and Pete told you there... Go find the tutorials on the Amabilis web site. I'd very strongly suggest that wagon tutorial. It gives you all the basics you need for building locomotives. Including how to build wheels and axles exactly to gauge the easy way. It'll also help you you get your head round all the principles involved in "3D Canvas" much quicker than looking at the sample locomotives. To be honest you won't learn much from those samples and in the main, the construction used on them was very poor and is now well outdated, by the things discovered and learned by the likes of the above two esteemed builders.Best Regards, Julian (Fozzy The Bear)
Yes, the Samples loco is good if you want to "examine" a model. As paul said, do the tutorials, even if they are not specific to MSTS modeling.Get ALL of the PLUGINS, especially Paul's plugins. These are serious time savers. Spend a lot of time reading the forums at AMABILIS. ASK QUESTIONS! They will get answered.Pete Willard http://www.trainsimstuff.com
