LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-04 AT 08:32 PM (EST)

I am in the process of making my first "object" for train simulator.
I am using gmax. Now for the problem. When I load the shape into the editor, its transparent. It seems like its reading the whole texture like it has an alpha channel.
I have re-compressed the ace file to make sure it compressed as an ACE with no alpha. Is this a common problem or have I just messed up somewhere.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

Yeah after I strugled with gmax I found that tutorial and found things I didnt know. I eventually got the thing loaded into the editor. And then boom... its all transparent. It is literally like its treating the texture as an alpha channel.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

As well as the answers above.Which 'editor' are you using to view the file? If 'editor' refers to the gmax program itself then right click on the text on the top left hand corner of the selected view window and select 'Smooth + Highlights' option from the menu. This will fill in your wireframe with your applied texture. If you are exporting the .S file and can not view it in Shape Viewer then then ensure that the pivot point for the part 'MAIN' is at 0,0,0. If the pivot point for the part MAIN is above the entire object then it will be drawn below ground level. In not resolved, can you please be more specific and provide more details if possible, just makes it easier to give you the right answer.Regards,Marek.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

The editor is the TrainSim route editor. And its not wireframe, the textures show up but they're transparent. You can see the textures but it blends in with the world behind it.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

Hi,You might change the material shader from AddATex to TexDiff or BlendATexDiff. This should work.Volker

RE: TrainSim Object problem

If im doing it right I believe its aready set to TexDiff. I'll keep messing with it and see what I can come up with.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

One thing I forgot to add...Make sure that the world axis of the model is set at 0,0,0. I once built a small bridge, but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to show in the sim. I then spied it in the corner of RE, about 200-meters away from where I had clicked to place it, thus realizing I had the world axis all cockeyed. You can use the 'W' key to turn on wire frame mode and look around.Cheers!

RE: TrainSim Object problem

Yeap, a picture is worth a 1000 words. As only the wheels seem to be transparent it looks like one of the shaders that applies the alpha channel was set when the texture for the wheels was 'put' on the wheels object/s.In gmax re-apply the texture ensuring that the shader is set to TexDiff. If still no good then do the following test. Create a new plain texture which is just 1 colour with no alpha channel.Convert to ACE (no alpha) and then apply that texture to the part using the Material Tool in gmax ensuring the following:Shader: = TexDiff
Mip LOD Bias = 0.0
Lighting Palette: = OptSpecular0
Filter Mode: = MipLinear
Z-Buffer Mode: = Normal
Alpha Test Mode = NoneThese are the default settings in Material Tools.Export the model using Trainsim LOD tool. Just use one LOD distance (I use 1000 for testing) to keep things simple.Copy the new plain texture you create into the appropriate location in your route folder and then check the model out in the Route Editor to see if the plain texture on the wheels is still transparent. If its OK with the plain texture then reapply your original texture with the same settings as above. Any difference?Let us know what you find. It may help someone else in future.Good LuckMarek.

RE: TrainSim Object problem

Just to clarify, Its actually not just the tires. Its the whole trailer. But I assume that all of the info above will still apply anyway I'll try it out and let you know what happens.
