SD70ace's – image 9

uh... no...The SD70ACe has a different rear end configuration, less radiator fans, different cab, trucks, sidesill, hood, etc. than the SD90MAC-H, and it's close cousin the SD9043MAC. It;s a shorter locmotive too.The ACe's in CSX paint are only pre-production testing/demonstrator locomotives.Bradley Linda

BNSF's hasn't got anything from EMD in a good 5-6 years, what really makes you think BNSF is going to stop getting GE's...The same with CN, CP, KCS.They've been all GE's except for CSX and NS who got SD70M *NS*/SD70MAC *CSX*Alaska Railroad has no reason to order ACe's with the recent order of SD70MAC's

LAST EDITED ON Jul-13-04 AT 01:51 PM (EST)

Once again, NS does NOT have any SD70ACe. CSX has preproduction test/demo units, which are painted for CSX and leased to them. Ownership is retained by GMLG. NS has ES40DC GEVO units from General Electric. NS has flared SD70M's with a different style cab, but no EMD AC power except for some ex CR SD80MACBradley Linda

Cool down Bradley.Maybe it's a mystery loco roaming the NS lines.Besides you never know what the NS is up to.Hell after working for the the NS there is still alot that I didn't and still don't know.BTW Shawn we don't make locos just for one person. They are made for the community by very talented people.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastSD70ace's – image 22

I guess they didn't like them, or something. Anyway you are right, the AC4400's have been pouring in on CPR (9800's?)... though I don't think CN has taken any C44-9W's for a couple of years.

RE: SD70ace's

Hey, Jay--Could you post one or two here as well, or someone at least post links to the CSX painted ones? I checked out the railpictures.net site, but didn't have any luck finding one on the first couple of pages. Do they have it listed under "CSX" or "GM" or "SD70MAC?" Looks like they need some new categories, but oh well. Thanks!!

THANK YOU!! Geez, that thing is so ugly, I can't help but like it! Wonder why they didn't angle the lower outside edges of the windows to conform to the nose like they did on the other SD70M(ac)s?

It looks like a big tank on rails or something. They need a cover on the sides to hide all those cables. People steal that stuff for some reason. It could really look better.

Quite the opposite actually. I hear the KCS hoggers were glad to get rid of those ugly, heavy things. The latest units KCS bought were old SD50s from CR and CSX I believe.Exactly what I heard Austin Some of KCS's track was stuggling with these ACe's. They are darn heavy! It would be cheaper and more effective to go with rebuilding second hand locos such as SD50's. Jay. Thanks a lot for those photos!! Those things couldnt get any uglier could they?? Where abouts were these? About the only thing I like about them is thier colour scheme. A Question for CSX fans, doesnt CSX have a 6 digit computer system for loco designations? Hence CW44AC, SD70AC...etc. If so, why do these ACe's have 7 digit? :|>Mike Forster<

Those things are ugly.. Quick question though.... These are called SD70Ace's, and they are LEASED to CSX correct? What are the other flared radiator EMD csx engines classified as? (Not talking about 80Macs)

RE: SD70ace's

"Yeah I especially don't like the rear of them, is this what's become of modern diesel power?"Naw, flared radiators have been around for some time, dating at least back to the SD45s and GP40Xs of the 70s. The other CSX flared units (47xx series) are SD70MACs.
