Hello,I would not recommend either of those sites. One of the big problems with painting trains for MSTS is that a computer monitor can produce colors that would never occur in reality. Such colors are so-called "out of gamut" colors, and unfortunately they often appear on MSTS repaints. Photoshop warns you when you select such a color (I don't know about PSP).Both the sites you mention advocate the use of over-saturated, out of gamut colors (e.g. pure red, RGB 255, 0, 0) to represent railroad colors.A much better resource is the 3DTrains International Color Reference Chart, available here: http://www.3dtrains.com/guides/msts_colors/Color is a fantastically complicated subject and I have great respect for people who understand it (I certainly have only scratched the surface)cheers
I agree with Clem.. the red for UP they suggest would have a sheen similar to USAF Dayglow Orange..Marc's site is much better for MSTS colors. I use it often, and from his colors, shift around for the match I need. Bradley Linda Waco, Texas
It appears that the first site you linked to has the RGB Codes for line drawings done on the computer. I've repainted dozens of these and they are picky with colors, so you really can't have fully accurate values. I use the 3dtrains colors reference site for all of my repaints. Here is one of my painted drawings (I also drew the T6 outline), as you can see the color is 0 0 255, far from the 0 107 177 code I use for my drawings.
Hmmm...I have 3D Trains chart, but often need colors not listed, like the other SAL colors...That's why I look everywhere for color charts.I did find a site that lists actual paint producers and paint codes for almost every road, but there are no actual samples and there are no RGB CMYK codes and very few pantone codes.I'm hoping to pull something together over time (somehow). It's tough, since many of the old color schemes are only in photos, we're dependent on the type of film, time of day, overcast, weathering and God knows how many other factors that affect the picture. Not to mention the perception of our own eyes and mind when we look at the photos. Then there's the issue of light to digital translation. But hey, that's all part of the fun!Moving America into the 19th Century! www.kelticsylk.com
