3D Trains SD80's – image 1

Just wondering if anyone had heard any progress on the 3D Trains SD80MAC's that they were doing. They had posted a while ago with pics in the SS forum, and they hadn't updated their own forums in a while.Thanks,-Dave

RE: 3D Trains SD80's

Still being worked on. When more is complete, I'll post pics.As for 'not updating my forum', I'm not sure what you mean - unless you're refering to the SD80. FWIW, the forum sees a fair amount of daily activity.Cheers!

RE: 3D Trains SD80's

Looks pretty good Marc! I hope you're going to do some in the bright future scheme too. I see CSX 801 (bright future scheme) quite a lot on the Pope's Creek branch near Waldorf, MD. Also see 800, 802, etc. in the dark future scheme as well!I also mentioned to Sacromento Locomotive Works something about a possible fallen flag scheme for the SD80's in Virginian and/or Norfolk and Western as these would look good running on the East River, upcoming Pokey and Clinch subdivisions. Fallen flag schemes were done for the SD90's. Are fallen flag schemes going to be done for the SD80's also?Separate note: I was wondering about your upcoming CSX Mountain Subdivision Route. Where is that located, i.e. where does it run to and from? Does it have anything to do with Clifton Forge, VA/White Sulphur Springs, WVA?Enough for one thread, you seem to have plenty of work on your plate. Keep up the great work, raising the standard for Train-Sim!

RE: 3D Trains SD80's

After going back and looking at the pic, I had failed to notice the "Cheat River Grade". I guess that means this is the line from Cumberland, MD to Grafton, WVA as I don't think the Cheat runs far enough north for this to be the Pittsburgh line. Am I correct?

RE: 3D Trains SD80's

Grafton to Cumberland it is, for the CSX Mountain Sub. Read the NTSB Accident Report R0202, the Bloomington MD Coal Train Accident (available at ntsb.gov in PDF format, free of charge), which explains the nature of operations on that territory. When 3DTrainStuff finishes this it will be an awsome addition to the payware routes, and an excellent complement to MLT's Sandpatch. Eastern Mountain railroading at its best (PRR-Penn Central-Conrail fans, eat your hearts out)! Going up hills is easy, just give me enough HP to handle the trailing tonnage and lift the train from a stop anywhere on the grade. Going downhill is what separates the real locomotive engineer from the wannabes!

RE: 3D Trains SD80's

I've seen that report, I think. Wasn't that train bound for the Morgantown and Swan Point power plants (via Benning Rd Yd in DC) south of DC in MD? The reason it caught my eye was that I live along the line that goes to those plans, also that someone was killed in their house when a coal car went through it.Looking forward to the route! I hope someone undertakes the Clifton Forge-Hinton, WVA Allegenny Subdivision and the New River Subdivision at some point. These were also great mountain routes (C&O now CSX) in their prime back in the 40's to 60's.
