Simple question: I'm just about done adjusting the lighting scheme Kelley Ellison did for Justin Cornell's SD40-2s to fit Dick Cowen's SD60M, but I have one question: How do you code the rear lights so that they will turn off when the locomotive couples to another piece of rolling stock?Jonathan Nikiforovs. Milepost 180, CP Belleville Sub.Repainter for Yonder Locomotive Works.

To make the rear headlights turn off when coupled to another locomotive, under "Conditions" the "Unit" line should have the number 3 as in the section below. For more info on lihghting codes look at the TechDocs on Disc 1 of MSTS.Light ( Type ( 0 #Rear Left Headlight Bright ) Conditions ( Headlight ( 3 ) Unit ( 3 ) ) FadeIn ( 0.5 ) FadeOut ( 0.5 ) Cycle ( 0 ) States ( 1 State ( Duration ( 0.0 ) LightColour ( ffffffff ) Position ( 0.107 3.894 -8.12 ) Azimuth ( -180 -180 -180 ) Transition ( 0 ) Radius ( 0.4 ) ) ) )
Thanks, that did the trick .Jonathan Nikiforovs. Milepost 180, CP Belleville Sub.Repainter for Yonder Locomotive Works.

Hey there, Sorry I didn't see this sooner......Read the tech docs......Then FORGET what you read.......I/we have came SO FAR from those docs...many of the codes I do now are my own personal stuff. I am WAY beyond the originals. KUJU had NO clue what they were doing in lighting. If they did, they would have made the damn program without that STUPID 250-ish light limit. When I did Cornell's stuff, I hadn't started setting them (rear) to go off when coupled...I do that on ALL the systems I do now unless asked otherwise, along with numberboards and classification lights on trailing units. Next time you have questions on a lighting system, e-mail me direct at niceoneace@aol.com....remember, I still do custom stuff as well if you need me. Good luck! Later!!
Hey, Kelley--have you ever thought of doing your own tutorial regarding lighting? Might be a pain in the butt short-term, but might free you up long-term. I, for one, would be interested in it b/c I like to fiddle with the lights when I do repaints, but have no other resource besides the tech docs. Anyway, just a thought. . .
