OK gang
I'm going to try to get out to the Illinois Railway Museum either Saturday or Monday(after attending Memorial Day observances if on Monday)hoping that they're running CSS&SB 803(or that some kind soul at the museum can get me up into 803's cab.
Since I'm breaking in the wife's new digital camera I've got room for 75 or so pics.
Anyone want me to try for any particular pieces of equipment for refference as long as I'm out there?
Bear in mind however that I maynot be able to get interiors or good angles on some pieces.
Check IRM's website for an equipment roster but hurry as I may be going as early as tomorrow, I'll check here before heading out.Gary S

RE: Heading out for IRM this weekend, Any refference re

Gary, If you go see the head honcho out there and tell him what you are doing, he will usually try to help you out all he can. I was the first person in 12 years allowed inside the UP turbine out there for NALW. I go on a regular basis and go get reference stuff. I am also a member, so that helps. Don't forget to go out into the diseasel shop and check out the MILW/CNW/CB&Q stuff in there getting worked on! Have fun!!!(BTW, yesterday at Davis Junction, ICE 224 (ex-CGW) was third in consist, along with a DM&E ex-MILW SD40-2 still with all the MILW spotting features! (City of Winona) Thought you might like the info....whats that? Where was my camera? Well.....my buddy and I went to go get scrap wood lying in the remains of the old Track Inn, and didn't think to take our cameras!!

Gary, you already know what I want (need)! If you can get cabviews of the 803, that would be great, but I'd also like to see how the Joe's two big trucks were connected. If you can get to it, could you grab a shot of the drawbar and associated stuff there? Thanks!Tim

Guys
No joy on 803 cab access, pretty much played tag with the guy I supposed to see but I'll try a midweek jaunt out the some time in July.
Til then if anyone else can get access to a Joe for cabviews by all means snag em.Tim
Did some quick Photoshop work to make this usable but this is looking right at the link area of the two drive sections

Thanks Gary. This sure is alot different than I ever pictured it in my mind. Sure helps having all the data you can possibly get - even if it post-facto. Thanks again! Tim

Hi Gary,I dounno if I'm too late, but I've got the TM bug again, so would any chance of anything on the 1100 series interurbans be possible. A cab shot, or a good shot of a passenger seat for texture use. I've learnt alot since I did the 1100s, and I'm completely redoing them, as well as doing the duplex cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm back in TM-land!Cheers,
Matt

RE: Heading out for IRM this weekend, Any refference re

Hi Gary, this way out there in left field, but if it's possible to get ANY audio recordings of anything on the Joe (air compressor, bell, horn, growl of the traction motors, even the notches of the controller), that would help. I realize you stated you were going with a digital camera, but perhaps you could beg/borrow a digital video recorder, which would be able to capture an audio sample that could be used in MSTS. Of course, if you DO beg/borrow a digital video recorder, ANY sample you capture would be useful, on any equipment that is running during your visit. Even a simple cassette recorder would be good enough for MSTS.FWIW, I have a friend visiting me this week. He is bringing with him a couple of air whistles (borrowed from other folks), which I plan to record in my back yard, for use in MSTS. One is off the CA&E 4005, and the other is a peanut whistle, not sure where it came from, but I have been looking for that sound for some time.

Matt
I'm assuming that an 1100 series is a TEMRL interurban car? Is it absolutely essential that it come from that car or would cab shots and interior textures from a CA&E or CNS&M car work just as well?
I've got some shots from a CNSM car's controls last time I was out there(they take the controller when the car's between runs, hope that won't be a problem)Chuck
Since IRM's website is sparce as to all the pieces in use I'm just going on the chance that holiday weekends tend to be run little used equipment occasions out at IRM so there is a chance 803 will be sitting dead in the barn but I was thinking about bringing the pocket cassette recorder for other reasons so I'll get what I can.
Just for reference though, it's been a good number of years since I've seen 803 under juice(not that it's out of commission just bad timing) but the boxcab sounds are really darn close.
CA&E 4005? cool, IIRC IRM is supposed to be running two of their CA&E cars so hopefully I should be able to get a recording of the little one chime air horn used on the CA&E's cars and their 2000 and 3000 series motorsAnd that brings me to...Kelly
Do you still need the bell recording off the C&NW cab car?Gary S

RE: Heading out for IRM this weekend, Any refference re

It's been a while since I've been able to get to IRM to fiddle with things, but I doubt the Joe will be running. We had it out a couple years ago just farting around with it and it has a lot of air leaks. As far as I know no work has been done on it.Todd
