RE: Update...

I had to add these new pics...
Update – image 4
because this thing is a "trip". Especially run in a tandem set like the real thing.Yes I know all the pantographs aren't supposed to be up...
Update – image 5
but one thing at a time.Right now I'm having too much fun watching it snake through curves.Mike, if your're listening, this is awesome!Does anyone have color photos of these? Are they dark blue or black? I'm guessing at the yellow hand grabs, etc...I've only seen black & white photos.Moving America into the 19th Century!

Update – image 7

Frank, I found a color pic in an old copy of Don Ball's "America's Colorful Railroads" It looks black, and very weathered, and the trucks look grey with sand dust. The yellow is more a faded yellow, than you've got there. It says 6800hp and 1,000,000 pounds!Tim

RE: Update...

I'll be glad to "cut it back" to 6800 Is that for the tandem set or one unit? I'm guessing it's for the set.So I split the mass to 125 tons per unit, 1700 HP each. That's one problem with these "articulateds". When I first assemble them I always forget to edit the ENG files before I test run. So I end up with some ridiculous horsepower range pulling no weight. The first notch and the thing takes off like a rocket...Emergency stops it eventually, but slowing it down to study the articulation requires full application. I really have to remember to fiddle with the power ratings BEFORE I start to test. One other thing. I've been assuming that all these locomotives use regenerative braking (so they're all "deisels" to the sim). Is this correct?Moving America into the 19th Century!

RE: Update...

WOW! Looks great!
Here is a link to a site that has a couple of pictures of the rear of those engines (black and white):
http://imagebase.lib.vt.edu/browse.php?folio_ID=/trans/nss/loco
Unfortunately I am away from my book collection so I cannot offer any information.
There are a couple of old color photos at the: VirginianRailwayEnthusiasts newgroup on yahoo.com.
Hope this is a little helpful!
Keep up the good work and definitely looking forward to this electric!Mykel

RE: Update...

Both coming along very nicely Don't forget this colour picture Frank, which shows them to be a rather muted shade of black, rather than jet black.Update – image 11The handrail and steps seem to look black in this photo, the same colour as the body. Generally they look ok in yellow, apart from the ones above and below the windscreen which tend to distract the eye somewhat from the windscreen shape, same on the W-1 (just my personal opinion). Also in this photo the yellow looks a lot more subdued in tone. The W-1 is looking good now, just a couple of points, the main headlight fairing is a very prominent feature on the real loco (see photo), and also there is a second headlight, although a dummy one would suffice for the MSTS model.Update – image 12Keep up the good work AlanUpdate – image 13http://www.blackpooltrams.com

RE: Update...

I remember adjusting the headlight shape. I pulled the points down for the flat across the bottom...Maybe is was on the wrong locomotive! The second headlight! I'm an idiot. I copied all this detail across fom the EL2, but left out the headlight.I did remember the down stroke on the nose striping Moving America into the 19th Century!

Looking good so far. Another minor detail that needs to be pointed out, if you haven't noticed with the GN W class ( and most all GN non-steam): The logo should be white lettering on a black background (surrounding the white goat on red background).
