Something you'll learn quickly is to NOT ask for stuff, lest you be told to do it yourself.

This I have found to be the rudest thing I have ever seen on a forum.People answering in this way should be ashamed of themselves. If it needed to be completely modeled then skinned I can understand the lack of someone wanting to do it as I know the time it takes to do.However if it is simply a reskin job then I see no reason for such rudeness and lack of being helpful or kind to someone who asks.I do skins and paintjobs for other games and do them freely and happily for others who ask.Why you may ask??Because I enjoy it and I feel good knowing I helped a fellow player out.Heck the whole community I am involved in does this. And FREE of charge.I would even do this for people here except for the flat layerless BMPs you have to work with it harder than it needs to be to repaint. So I have not bothered to try. Some people here need to visit my other community and take a look around.Maybe they will pick up a few manners and learn something about being helpful to others.

I realize that the original poster is a newcomer and they have not encountered this phenomenon before... IMPREZZED *was* trying give advice.
BUT... You know what? This is a fact that is not going to change. These "people" who give this advice are not and should not be ashamed of themselves. They are simply telling it like it is. Some people don't know how to or simply don't like to do research... I'm sorry about that. People here WILL HELP... unless it's beyond the limit of being reasonable. So...1) If it's available to be skinned, it's likely to be in the library, so they would not have to ASK for it. Download and go.2) If it's not in the library to be skinned, then it might be PAYWARE and that comes with it's own limitations. IE; If you own it great, but you can't expect someone that owns it to reskin and give it to someone who has not paid for it. (Oh wait, that's been done.) 3) If it's not in the library and it's not payware, chances are it hasn't been done. There are so few active modelers left, I doubt they are looking for new projects... they have plenty of their own to do. See? That's the point. It's not being rude, it's a statement of fact. If someone wants something that hasn't been done "BY NOW", chances are that the only way they will see it done is if they make it their own project.
I've personally done requests, by the way. Here's how it worked.Someone wanted a particular engine and asked if anyone was working on it. They contacted two separate modelers and provided them with drawing references, physics data and photographic web site links... You don't just "whip up a model". You need all that extra research done as well. The request was reasonable because they did their homework first.

I figure 90% of the people who have created 3D Models for MSTS did not know modeling beforehand. What do you think was the inspiration to get started in modeling? There was something they wanted, it wasn't on anyone's project list... so it was time to get cracking and do it themselves."DO NOT", I repeat, "DO NOT" insult *us* by saying that you can't do something before you even try to learn how. I mean TRY, not spend 5 minutes and say "It's too hard. I'm not smart enough." Those who behave this way are the people who should be ashamed.BTW: I have no plans to do a Turbo Train.

If a product has a wall-wart, don't buy it. Force peripheral makers to find a more innovative way to power their devices, and leave wall-warts where they belong: in the waste bin of history.

RE: Turbo Train

And i'll add a bit more advice for the original poster:NEVER ask if someone will model something "for you". I personally would instantaneously ignore that request, and i imagine there are many others that would as well. There are far more tactful and polite ways to ask for a model to be made.----------- BUZZ -----------Turbo Train – image 6

Oh, it's not vapourware - I only shelved it to work on other projects. The proof is in the pudding I guess - here's some pix of it along with another project I am working on.Depending on interest, I might revive these projects.Brian.

RE: Turbo Train

Wow, that CN turbo train looks superb It was one of my favourite trains years ago because they looked so unique. I hadn't realised that one was being worked on for MSTS!I'm sure it would be well received by the community if you decided to go ahead with it Brian.I wonder what other gems are out there lurking on hard drives AlanTurbo Train – image 13

helloI must admit it's especially irritating to see someone ask for a model with no special considerations towards our community. But it's perhaps more a matter of properties. As I am a registered member of numerous european forums, I can tell you that, for instance, there is a "request" section on the UKTS forum where people can suggest to creators to undertake some models. Of course manners are more polite. And some authors say that they find there a source of inspiration.Emmanuel
