How do I adjust the keyboard controls for non-self lapping brakes to be more responsive? Conditions: Relative newby to Train Sim (3 months) but computer geek and not afraid to modify ANY file up to and including registry roots - after backup, of course. So throw me the technical stuff coach! I can handle it!I have been reveling in Santa Fe passenger trains on Cajon and Tehachapi (Can't wait for the Surf Line!) but I haven't played much with vintage steam. Now I have loaded Charlie Leveritt's Silverton Route and am playing with non-self lapping brakes after running diesels for months. Specifically I have been experimenting with Eureka & Palisades #4 and D&RGW K-36 #487. I find the two to be vastly different in brake controls although both are non-self lapping systems.Problem: Having operated these systems in real life I understand the operations and principles. I find the operation of E&P 4 very responsive and satisfying. In either mouse-operated cab view or using the keyboard buttons (preferred mode - I don't ride the cab much!) I can move from Running through Lap to Apply, pull off 8 lbs and lap it, hold till I get my desired speed and quickly move to Release to recharge and kick off the air. Just like the real thing it's a second-and-a-half flip of the brass handle. The 487 is another story. Although the mouse operated brake valve in the cab quickly swings from Release to Running to Lap to Apply and back with relative ease (considering the 'hassle' of mousing controls!), the semi-colon and apostrophe buttons are dead slow and impossible to use with any comfort. I checked it last night and to go from 100% release to 0% release and into lap took over 40 taps on the key. Holding it down that's nearly two seconds on a standard PC with keyboard repeat speed set to max, then another two seconds to go through Running, another two seconds to go through Lap and another half second or so to get 8 lbs off the clock. If I head for Release as my desired speed comes up it takes so long to get there that the train stops before I can get air back in the line! Makes for a jerky trip down from Rockwood!I have played around with some of the numbers on the train brake parameters, trying to match some of the settings to the Eureka's set up but had no luck so went back to the saved .eng file.Which parameters change the keyboard speed for brake up and down?Herb Kelsey

RE: Non-Self Lapping Brakes

You could try this values... EngineBrakesControllerMaxApplicationRate( 1.8 )
TrainBrakesControllerMaxApplicationRate( 1.4 )
EngineBrakesControllerMaxReleaseRate( 1.8 )
TrainBrakesControllerMaxReleaseRate( 1.4 )
TrainBrakesControllerMaxQuickReleaseRate( 2.7 )
EngineBrakesControllerEmergencyApplicationRate( 2.8 )
TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyApplicationRate( 2.7 )
Brake_Engine ( 0 1 0.025 0.75
NumNotches ( 2
Notch( 0 0 EngineBrakesControllerReleaseStart )
Notch( 0.012 1
EngineBrakesControllerApplyStart )
)
)
Brake_Train ( 0 1 0.2 0.6
NumNotches ( 6
Notch( 0 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullQuickReleaseStart )
Notch( 0.2 0 TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart )
Notch( 0.4 0 TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart )
Notch( 0.6 0 TrainBrakesControllerNeutralHandleOffStart )
Notch( 0.8 0 TrainBrakesControllerFullServiceStart )
Notch( 1.0 0 TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyStart )
)
)
This is seting for 24RL-MC1 Automatic brake valve ( + S40 independent brake valve )
