Malice is Dumb ! – TSM Question ! – Help !

Not to drum up a bunch of arguements here as I know this is a touchy subject !!Heres the scenario !I recently installed WIN XP ProI formatted my C drive for a fresh installI missed a couple items of note to back up ( not a big deal right ?? )WRONG !!Every project I have " on the go " was stored on my C drive.Now I still have them in the route ... but alot of them are unfinished or untextured.HERE'S THE QUESTION.Is there a program that I can get my project files BACK from a shape file ??See I told you Malice is dumb !!LaterA couple projects " on the go "LRC Coaches

Bank of Montreal Bldg & about 15-20 other Downtown Toronto buildings that I can't remember the name of !As you can see a program that will give me my project files back would be very handy !!There's NO freakin way I'm starting that all those over again ..... Not yet anyways

Hi Tim,I hate to bring bad news, but not to my knowledge.I know this sounds redundant..but I try to back up all my (TSM, DST TGA's, bitmaps and so forth) files on a CD. One never knows when a loss of originals may occur.I want to give you hope, but I don't think there is any for recovering your original files.Paul Fowler

Thats what I figured !!I think I just needed to hear it from someone else !Back to the drawing board !!Oh well finding the information required to build this stuff was 3/4's of the work anyways.Later

I was under the impression it was possible, for someone came up with something close to, if not, that idea. It was supposed to be on a case by case basis. I am not sure who it was, but I'd keep this topic going and see if anything shows.Chris

Hi Tim,Yes, it is possible to recover your drive. A program called "Data Recovery" from Ontrack (www.ontrack.com) will restore files even from a formatted drive - PROVIDING YOU HAVEN'T OVERWRITTEN IT. One portion of it is floppy based so you can do a full restore. I bought it because I wasted a couple partitions where I kept all my add-ons. I managed to restore close to 90% even after I repartitioned and reformatted the drive. The portion I lost was due to my overwriting the data.Only problem is it's costly - Close to $200. But, depending on how much your data's worth - it might be the bargin of a lifetime.Take careLarry Steiner

There is also a program called "Lost and Found" by PowerQuest. It was 63.95 when I bought it at Fryes a few years ago. I had reformatted my hard drive and it rocovered almost all of the data. I had to buy a new hard drive for it to put the recovered data onto, but that was a small price to pay at the time. Good luck. John

The bogies still needed work, other than that they were looking goodHOWEVER !!This was one of my first projects and I have learned alot of "tricks" since then .... I may just go with a restart anyways.Like I have said before .... Finding the required info to build a model is a good portion of the work. I have all the info, so I would guess that within a week I could get the coaches back to the state the were BEFORE the format.I actually have a NALW project on the go that will take priority over my " LRC " work first however.Maybe I'll work on the LRC's during coffee break from NALW work !!Later
