Click to send message via ICQ

This happens after deleting some parts in LOD manager.
This recommended by Okrasa Ghia and helped me:
Delete polygons, not the objects

> what's causing the error? Don't know but the LODs seem to get corrupted, especially after any scene modifications, from time to time. But I can suggest a solution that works for me in the same situation. Open the model and the LOD tool. In the LOD tool click 'operations/remove LOD data from MAX scene'. Exit the LOD tool and save the scene. You will of course lose/have to redo the LOD data, but this is the only work around I have found. Now open the LOD tool and redo the LOD data & export the s file.Again remove the LOD data before exiting the LOD tool.Removing the LOD data each time after an export / saving without the LOD data almost always solves this problem.Let me know if this works for you.

>Removing the LOD data each time after an export / saving
>without the LOD data almost always solves this problem. And will almost always cause a crash, as there's a bug in the close routine (the 'X' icon) of the LOD Manager. The easiest method is to follow your guide up to, and before, adding to the LOD Manager. Save the file, then add the new LOD and export. When complete, simply close Gmax without saving. Since the file was saved previously without LOD info, all should be well. Cheers!

RE: can't export gmax crashes

I was working on the supertrain interior and resized everything at once. Now gmax crashes when I try to export to s. I removed the lod data and saved without but still it crashes.

RE: can't export gmax crashes

Try making a new empty project and import the "mesh/parts" from your project, eventually one by one, that might work. You might get it to work this way.Peter

In the files menu choose "merge..", select the the file you would like to import from, then choose the part(s) in the next window. Thats about it.Peter

RE: can't export gmax crashes

I think this problem might lie in "resized everything at once." There are some issues with using the scale tools on an entire object (or entire scene for that matter) so you should only use scaling when you're in point or polygon editing mode. I was once working on a project and decided that the whole thing was a bit too short, so I scaled it to be longer and couldn't figure out why it failed to export. I tried the same thing with starting a new scene and merging my model into it, with no success, and here's why:The problem is that Gmax retains the scale ratio that you apply, so it saved my main object with a 102% scale. Anything other than 100% will cause an exporting error. What you can do to get rid of this is to select all the objects and then go to the hierarchy tab and click "reset scale/transform". That should take care of that problem, but you'll probably still have to remove all the LOD data and redo it to make sure it's updated.Alex StroshaneCan't export gmax crashes – image 5
