Hi All,
Just thought I would show off my latest loco, it is in the hands of the scrutineers at the moment and if the give it the green light it will be in the Train-Sim Library just after Easter. It is a representation of the AB Class locomotive used here Western Australia.

Outstanding work there Stew!! I like it alot!!I remember going up to Enneabba on an ARHS trip many years ago (i think it was 1994) with my dad back when I was a kid behind AB 1532. For some reason, we had P2004 for about 20 km on the way back towards Perth. A mineral sands train broke down.I would love to learn how to use Gmax/3D max to model some other West Australian locos such as Q's and S's! Where abouts did you learn? Thanks a lot! Keep up the great work! (Y)>Mike Forster<

RE: Coming Soon

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your comments, I plan on doing a reskin shortly of the AB into 1536, so there will be two around to use soon.Where did I learn to make models, sitting right here in front of the computer with plenty of patience and learning from many many many mistakes. Making models is fairly easy, the hardest part is getting use to the 3D program.G`Day Marek, I am doing a route, not N/G, just one using normal XTracks etc, it will run from Albany to Katanning at first then expanded afterwards, only been doing it for the last two years or so, don`t think it will be finished for quite some time, been busy making models I have only laid around 16k of track starting from the Albany end.Stew aka 6330trainfan

>...and its not Victorian ! LOL ROFLMAO!! Stew, Is AB1536 going to Westrail orange with ARG/AWR logos or will it be pure Westrail? My "repaint plate" is pretty empty...Once that AB is released, I might do it up in WAGR Green and perhaps Westrail Orange! Looking forward to the Albany-Katanning route too! How far is it from Albany to Katanning? I remember going on that trip with the ARHS a while ago, when I was a lad...cant remember much of it though! >Mike Forster<

RE: Coming Soon

Hi Mike, like all ex WAGR locos it went to ARG and does carry the ARG logo which sits further back on the B end than it does on 1534. Currently there are no plans to repaint the AB`s into ARG livery, not sure about reskinning one into WAGR Green though, 1534 is in Westrail Orange albeit a very faded orange Albany - Katanning is approx 200k as the crow flies.Regards

RE: Coming Soon

Howdy Stew,My hats off to ya re: building Albany-Katanning route. Hell of a lot of work that. What kind of models are you building currently?I'm currently on the gmax learning curve building a BHP CM40-8M. I find building the models fun but I find texturing is a royal pain. Currently working on transparency sorting in my cab. I have no artistic flair but I'm working on it.Do you have problems with the Trainsim LOD Tool crashing gmax after every export or is it just me (or my models)?
Giday Mike I'm kinda new in town so I had to look up the map to see were Currinbine/Whitfords was (as well as Katanning).I came over from NSW recently so I've been spending a bit of time on the activities in Coal Road 2. They are awesome. It's been keeping me away from my loco building though. I usually test my locos in Newcastle. Nice flat running and you don't have to work the engine hard.Sounds like you've done a bit of rail travel around WA. Do you know of a good haunt where I can catch some close up loco action around Perth? I need to get some photos for textures and I don't have a zoom lens.RegardsMarek

RE: Coming Soon

Hi Marek,
Nice to hear from you, hope you are finding Perth to your liking. To answer your LOD question, no I don` have any trouble with it, very rarely use it for my models, I use TSM for modeling.
After the AB is cleared by my eagle eyed scrutineers and it is uploaded I have plans to do an NJ Class, the one working in Albany at the moment. Not having lived in Perth for over 10 years now, I don`t know if things have changed a lot, donot know where you are living in the metro area but if you can get around, try sitting on the old Midland station for a hour or three, heard it can get busy with a variety of trains passing, Forrestfield area is also a good place for pics, there are a few but depending on where you live it could mean some driving to get there. You might want to join the local ( WA ) forum, plenty of news about happenings etc, if you go here http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/warail/ and sign up for membership I`ll put in a good word for you Regards

RE: Coming Soon

Stew,Thanks for the hints re: trainspotting and the link to the WA forum.Sorry about assuming that you were using gmax. I purchased TSM a while ago but having used 3ds max before I found the gmax interface a lot more familiar.I'll keep an eye out for your future releases. Thanks also to Mike for the different locations to check out. I'll have to get on my trusty bike and by a rail ticket for the more distant locations.Once again thanks for your assistance you guys.RegardsMarekPerth, WA

Hi Marek, How are you enjoying life over here in Perth? The weather at the moment totally rocks!! >I'm kinda new in town so I had to look up the map to see were Currinbine/Whitfords wasI’m up at Joondalup. The next station south of Currinbine and 2 stations north from Whitfords. >Sounds like you've done a bit of rail travel around WAAbout the only place I haven’t been in South Western Australia is Esperance. >Do you know of a good haunt where I can catch some close up loco action around Perth? It depends on where in Perth you live. I normally catch the 1600 Perth to Adelaide Pacific National stack train through Midland. Good fun is get there about 1000. You get numerous ARG freights, The Indian Pacific about 1220, The Sprit of the West about then too and last time I was there, about 3 Pacific National freights. 2 out-bound and 1 inbound stack train. Later on in the afternoon, you get the Sprit of the West come back into Perth...then a while later, it comes back out to Midland when it goes into staging at Midland Workshops. I am only 17 (18 in June)...when I had to get 25 hours of supervised driving for my L's...I dragged my Mum out to Kwinana, Mundijong and Pinjarra (then later to Mandurah). Kwinana is quite touch and go. The folk at ARG get quite upset if you park inside the yard and watch trains!! The best place to go is the level crossing just south of the yard. Its public open space, and ARG are fine with rail fans there. (Lots of friendly toots of the horn!) In just 5 minutes...I caught S2101 and DB1589 depart on a Bunbury or Worsley Alumina train, then at the northern end of the yard, caught Q317 (on Standard Gauge) depart on a Forrestfield bound container train ex-Fremantle (I think!). All photographed from public space. The old Kwinana Bus station (deserted, right next to the junction) is a great photo location. Just be careful of police...it does say "No Cars!"...Busses don’t use it anymore, I don’t think anyone does. There is always a lot of Bauxite trains running between Jarrahdale and Banana (Kwinana). If you need textures for NR's...go down 2 times to East Perth...once on Saturdays at 0930, and another time on Wednesday. The NR faces a different direction on Wednesday than it does on Saturday. You could grab all 4 sides of the locomotive. The crew are fairly friendly...I got to browse around in the cab of a NR a while ago...the crew was chatting away to me, telling about what all the controls on the desktop do and so on.Another place for good fun...Avon Valley!! Particularly "Windmill Hill/Cutting". Really accessible off "Todjay Road" and there is beautiful countryside there, especially in spring...the Avon River is nice and full after winter's heavy rains.I was out on "Leavers" aka: Schoolies Week back in November, the line through York seamed VERY busy. Every day we went into town, we saw 2 narrow gauge wheat trains crawl through with either DA's or P Classes. Some nice photo opportunities there! >Mike Forster<

Marek, nice to see a fellow Perthian here! I WAS working on the Currinbine to Perth NSTS, got as far as Whitfords and realised there is no proper stations for it, so I scrapped it! I run Stew's P classes on the Ballarat Line 90% of the time >Mike Forster<
