I've exported... let's see... about 5 gmax models already and never had this problem before. I'm building a Mikado which has not been exported to .s until my try today. I built it just like any other locomotive and when I export, it says something about the application will now close, or whatever else it feels like saying in an error message (I've tried four times and got 3 error messages). I have no idea what's wrong, it's well detailed and may have a high poly count, but I don't see why that should change anything. If anyone wants this file to try to get it to work for them, or someone has help, I'd appreciate it.

RE: Gmax and exporting

More research: The first backup I have can be exported, but none of the rest can. The differences between the first and second are the addition of a cab, firebox, stack, headlight, bell, and domes. Should I try removing these from later backups and see if they work then? Maybe figure out which is defective, and rebuild that part from scratch? Two weeks of hard work went into this, I don't want to ruin it.

Remove them in reverse order of building, and try an export each time.

RE: Gmax and exporting

I would have used it on the wheels somewhere around backup 5, but 2-4 are also corrupt. I may have used it on the boiler. If I delete the boiler and wheels*, would it work then, or does scale ruin everything when used on one part?*Locomotive with cab, frame, firebox, everything on top of boiler, pilot, and pistons, with no wheels or boiler. This will look interesting.

A tip someone else on train-sim pointed out to me was that if you can find the part(s) that are causing the problem, you might be able to fix the problem without re-making the part. Select the part, go to "hierarchy" mode (the fourth tab over? with the tree diagram on the tab) and click "reset scale" toward the bottom of that menu.I've also had problems if the model has more than 64 distinct parts, but I think this exported OK and failed only when MSTS tried to load it.

RE: Gmax and exporting

Thank you... I got it fixed after spending a half hour going through the parts I suspected to be defective... I thought it would be the boiler, wheels, or something on top of the boiler, and went through a bunch of combinations to figure out which ones were problems. It was the wheels and stack- both of which, now that I think about it, were scaled, probably not in point mode. I ran the locomotive and some NG coaches I'm making up and down White Pass without a problem- except the front wheels, which spin around the Y-axis instead of X, but I haven't aligned their pivot points to world yet, and I know that will fix the problem.
