Hi All, I have a problem and am looking for some help to try and solve it. I am currently building a hopper which in real life is connected in pairs by a drawbar, I am using TSM and did want to build the two wagons as one project, I made two and connected them in the Sim, there was to much lateral movement in the drawbar when going around curves, hence the reason for doing two in TSM making a solid connection between the two wagons. What I would like to know is, is it possible to get four bogies with wheels to work properly in Train-Sim that are part of one project and also if the drawbar is directly connected to the 2nd & 3rd bogie so it 'follows' the wagons movement better, would cause any problems in the Sim.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, my thanks in advance.Regards Stew aka 6330trainfan Albany WA Australia
Have done a bit of thinking on this one, and your word picture gives me two ordinary bogied wagons connected by a drawbar instead of the normal coupling, with a normal coupling at either end of the pair. One possible solution to this is to build in 3 parts. Wagon A with bogie1, bogie 2 and 3 connected, and wagon B with bogie4. This would of course mean a lot of fiddling with the pivot points to get it looking right. As far as 4 bogies on one unit are concerned, I am not 100% certain on this. I do have a 4 bogied loco I downloaded some time ago. I'll give this a run and check it out.Mervynmervyn.
Why not build it like the real thing (2 separate car models) and couple them with a drawbar defined in the .wag file, in addition to the automatic coupler? You can indeed have two coupler entries in the .wag file. That being said, multiple coupler definitions do behave oddly sometimes (MSTS having trouble distinguishing front from rear) and it would take some experimenting with coupling/uncoupling to see if it might work for your case... is this what you had already thought about Mervyn, in your suggestion of a 3-unit approach?cheers
Yes you can. Check out the Jumbo1 car in the library or any of the schnable cars. Study the .wag tensioner and .sd bounding box files. I build the 4 bogie jumbo car that way but it is in 3 pieces.
Many thanks for all your comments, might go have a look at the Jumbo1 car and see how the couplers have been configured.Regards Stew aka 6330trainfan Albany WA Australia
Hi Clem Yes, I had first of all considered the two unit with drawbar approach, but then remembered the very helpful post from Sniper on the subject of coupler swapping ends under certain circumstances. I then had a think about what rolling stock had already been made in this fashion and felt that the three unit approach was probably the way to go. Just an idea, think I'll try it out. I have a model in mind, just need to find some more info on it.mervyn.
