Fantastic New Utility for Viewing .S files Outside the – image 1

Paul Gausden's done it again.http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod/download.htmHe has created a new viewing tool that will let you see an .S file outside of the sim. It displays the entire model and lets you see exactly what it looks like in the sim. The viewer is still beta, but what a great idea. No more having to load up the sim all the time just to view what a model looks like.

They've reached the bandwidth limit for today, but I'll keep trying, it seems like a really cool idea.Stetson

Just tried it...cool utility! It lets you see your work in progress...pretty helpful considering you don't have to start up MSTS to see how it is looking....definetely a keeper!!!

> Great little utility. Been needed for a Long time. Found one problem. Apperently it doesn't like 1024x1024 textures. Also needs a little work when it comes to the alpha channel. But it is still a great utility. Keep up the good work!!!Richard

Strange, I haven't had a problem viewing things with 1024 textures! This utility is sure handy for viewing an object while doing textures. I do wish that I could change the angle of view, top to bottom, as you can't view any straight on, level textures right now. Thank you for making this available. I'm already using it regularily.

Same here, of the three models I created with gmax, Sview will only load one of them, the one that uses 512 X 512 ace files. The two that uses 1024 X 1024 will not load.Still, a great utility. I hope the 1024 ace file compatibility can be fixed.

I think its great! There are a lot of uncompressed shapes I have found though. I've been compressing everything I can find. That seems to be why some don't load, they do fine after compressing them. I can't believe how many uncompressed shape's and ace's there are. I have a tool that makes it quick and easy to use FFEdit, removes the learning curve. I'll have to upload it next weekend.

I've been finding quit a few shapes that won't compress no matter what, even from the command line. Errors of some sort in the shape files when compressing with ffedit, but the shapes work in the sim ?!?There are five or six Loco's that came in a retail package I bought, and none of them will compress. This makes me wonder if its the software they were designed in, or converted by, being the problem???Anyhow they won't show in SView without being compressed.

Yes, I've found a couple that won't compress either and they are from a commercial add-on package too. In saying this though some shape files from the same product will compress, no problems at all. Weird huh ?
