Does anyone have any decent plans for the Type F Interlocking Coupler? I have found one diagram on the web, but it does not show the overall coupler completely (mainly an end view).
Also, any suggestions for modelling one for TS??
Thanks and have a good day!Mykel

RE: Tightlock Couplers

Excellent! Thanks for the pictures, these will come in handy! One question I do have, on the extension coming out of the bottom of the coupler, I am guessing this only covers one half of the coupler? (so that another coupler joining it will "lock" with it) At least I think I am reading the view from the top correctly.
Thanks again!Mykel

RE: Tightlock Couplers

The thingey sticking out of the bottom is called a lower shelf, and is designed to keep a coupler with a broken shank from falling onto the r/w.
F couplers also come in an upper shelf variety, most often seen on tank cars.
Unfortunately, upper shelf couplers will not couple w/ passenger cars, because the upper shelf runs into the buffer plate on the passenger car - at least in real life.
F couplers are interlocking couplers, but only H couplers are properly called tightlock.

RE: Tightlock Couplers

The tightlock type couplers serve a couple purposes. The ones used on Tank cars, they prevent climbing and therefore keep the coupler from puncturing the tank car.

RE: Tightlock Couplers

Thanks Chuckzeiler! Turns out the size of my couplers weren't that far off after all. The actual profile was way off tho.
