RE: A teaser for 1st generation diesel fans...

Thanks for the offer. I could certainly use an .eng file, so far I have taken her on a few test runs with a modified GP9 .eng file, but I'm missing a lot of data for the NW5.I'm planning to do skins for GN, BN, Southern, and Massachusetts Central, plus an "undec" version for the skinners out there.Richard Jenkins

Thanks! She will probably end up being a bit of a poly hog (5079 at latest count), but since these things generally ran alone or in pairs, it hopefully shouldn't be a problem. I hope to keep her under 6k anyway.

Lookin great if you're a diesel fan! (I have to admit, steam nut that I am, some of these early diesels are pretty cool!) Am I correct in thinking that at one time you were working on an NP W-3 2-8-2?

LAST EDITED ON Sep-30-03 AT 12:38 PM (EDT)

Hi Steve,
Yep, she's coming along slowly but... um, slowly! I'm definitely a steam fan first and foremost, but I like the 1st generation diesels too. I got hold of an NW5 blueprint and I figured it would be a good one to do since she'd fit right in on Marias Pass and the Kootenai River Sub routes. I'm getting some W3 drawings from Bill McKown at W&R models, so I'll shift my focus back to the W-3 when those arrive.Richard Jenkins

RE: A teaser for 1st generation diesel fans...

Hi Richard,Let me know if you need photos, I think I sent you some a long time ago. Also, Jon Davis, who's done several logging mallets, along with the Sumpter engines, is working on an S-4. His engines will play a major role in both SVRy, and our next route.Tim Muir and I are trying to put the finishing touches on the Sumpter Valley route, and I've started the NP Moclips branch/Rayonier logging. They were close together at Hoquiam, and connected out at Moclips. The W-3's hauled a lot of logs in the PNW, and I have plans for the NP 41' skeleton flats, which Tim will be doing.

That's good to hear about the S-4. I was thinking about doing one of those based on the plans that were in Model Railroader a couple years back, but at the rate the W-3 is going, I guess it would be a while before I'd get to it. Jon does great work too, so I'm really looking forward to that one. I also started a Q-3 as a back-burner project, but I'll wait until I finish the W-3 before I really get going on that.
