I recently tried to include part of the outside shell of my own locomotive in what was seen from the cabview through the front window. I tried to do this by moving the front-view viewpoint location and pointing angle around to differnet locations and angles but still could not see any portion of the locomotive shell. Finally I moved the viewpoint outside of the cab and found out that I had a train without the locomotive (i.e., I could see the cars attached to the locomotive, but not the locomotive itself). Does anyone know of any way that I can get the external (i.e., the out-of-the window) portion of the cab view to include the locomotive on which the cab is located? There doesn't seem to be any problem with seeing the locomotive in the head-out-of-the window views. Or, is this an inherent MSTS problem that can't be altered? Thanks Dick Williams
I used a separate section of the model, and then used the FreightAnim tag in the ENG file to attach it to the locomotive. This allows you to view the handrails and hood of the diesel, and also has the benefit of displaying whatever color is used on the hood. The steps needed:1) Create the separate hood piece (based on the original loco), and lower the model (not the world axis) by 0.0545m 2) Remove the same section on the basic model (else the two will conflict when viewed in the sim) 3) Drop the new piece into the directory where the locomotive is located 4) Add the following to the loco's ENG file: FreightAnim( CNW_4123.s 1 1 )Lowering of the model compensates for the difference in location of the loco and the FreightAnim assignment. Some tweaks may be needed for yours to work, but the above is what I use. Cheers! Marc - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.comPro Series SuperPacks
I should have stated that "CNW_4123.s" in the FreightAnim tag is whatever you name your viewable hood piece. Cheers! Marc - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.comPro Series SuperPacks
