Good morning first of all excuse me for my English. After some month, yesterday I tried to convert a BMP texture in an ACE file (using TGA Tools). Using all the type of Makeace (old, new, win) I obtain an error message (error of not valid page - I try to translate from Italian) and so I cannot convert the file. In the past I produced a loco for MSTS with TSM (more or less a year ago) and I had not problems of any sort. Few weeks ago I changed video card and I update the direcX to the release 9. These are the only things I changed in the last year in my PC. Had anybody suffered the same problem? Do you know how to solve it? I tried also to reinstall makeace but without success. Thank you in advance from Italy. CIAOAndrea (Andrew)
Hello Andrea, Not quite sure if I understand your question correctly, if you are still using TSM, the conversion from bmp to ace is done through that. If you wish to convert a bmp outside of TSM, try loading the bmp file into a paint editing program, for example Paint Shop Pro, resave it a tga file, load that into the TGA Tool program and then export it to an ace file. I dont think changing the video card will cause any problems, the same for DirectX 9.xx, if you are using Windows XP. Stew aka 6330trainfan Albany WA Australia
Try running MakeAceWin and converting the Bmp directly there. If you still get errors then it looks like the old makeace problem. With some graphics cards makeace just won`t work unless you disable DirectDraw Acceleration in DirectX. Ati cards seem particularly prone to this but they are not alone.
Thank to all I use Windows 98SE and I have an ATI card. Also Makeacewin give me the same problem. I tried directly with TgaTools2 so this evening I will try the two proposed solution. The first using TSM and the second disabling directdraw acceleration. Thank you for the quick help!!! CIAOAndrea (Andrew)
I suspect that TSM (like TgaTool2) actually uses Makeace to do the Ace conversion.Disabling DirectDraw acceleration usually cures it. Sometimes you canm switch it back on later and Makeace will continue to work but a lot of people have resigned themselves to turning it off whenever they want to create Ace files.
