I recall seeing someone else having this problem once, but no solution to the problem.I am building a large electric is 3DC. After exporting via train sim wizard it sets up and works fine except the drivers turn VERY slowly. I had to add a wheelradius line to the wag generated as none was included. That made the pilot and trailing truck wheels appear, and rotate at the correct speed, but the drivers still creep along.Perhaps the problem is it's set up as an electric? Thing is as I recall a steamer built in 3DC also had this problem. Also, the FPS is very low with it even though there are not many polys here yet. The scene details shows about 1500 for each running gear half and the body is only a simple box right now.Surprisingly, it set up just as I hoped in the sim. (It's made up of three parts) I just need to adjust some lengths and it will be right.Any thoughts? Thanks,
Todd

RE: Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer.

You need to specify two wheel radii values in the ENG file - one in the wagon part for the pilot and trailing wheels, and one in the engine part for the drivers - this is what determines the rotation speed (assuming you have used 8 frame/30FPS animation for the drivers)When you quote polys, the 3DC scene details shows "faces" which is not the same as "triangles" which is the "true" poly count - you need the count triange script or plugin to check this. (or the SFM program)1500 "faces" for each (probably over 3000 triangles) seems quite high for a model in this early stage, though not excessive enough to slow the frame rate.

RE: Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer.

Thanks for the info Paul. I'll fiddle with it and see what happens.I should have mentioned that the drive wheels are spoked. Likely the reason for the fairly high face count. I regenerated it tonight (I used your Engineer plugin both times.) with solid wheels and no axles and got under 600 faces. Since the wheels are pretty much hidden, I'm going this way to save polys. Still have to try the new one to see what it does with the framrates.
Bradley- A Milwaukee fan? You should be ashamed of yourself. Count the drive wheels. (I don't have enough drawings of the Joes to do them. Need a top shot yet. ie; Looking down to get the radius' for the nose sections. I have an Overland Joe sitting next to my puter, to use for detailing, but I don't want to just eyeball the curves.)Todd

"Only thing that could top this is is a Joe.. "If I can get the drawings I need I'll take a swing at it. Other than getting the nose right, it shouldn't be too terribly difficult. The articulation of the Quill works fine and the Joe would be set up the same.Actually, I think the Joe would be easier than the Quill as it's more modern. Doesn't have so much stuff hanging all over it. Todd

*psst**Bradley*Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer – image 4After a few hours work. Kinda pleased with it so far as I've never even tried to do compound curves before. Needs some fine tuning, but it's a start.Todd

>Or maybe some SD10s?? Ditto that. A Milwaukee SD10 was the first locomotive I was ever on. At the age of 11. Never got to run one though. CP retired them the month before I transferred to Bensenville. Todd

RE: Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer.

Give me some time to learn 3DC and I will see what I can do. Since Jim Duncan is taking his time it seems with the new build of the Marceline route (I'm waiting for him to release it so I can continue with my part of things), so I'm just trying to burn time until he releases it.BTW, the new P2K GP38s are crap, but I won't go into details right now.Austin

I'm gonna stick with Atlas GP38s, best I've ever had.

I'd suggest using the alpha channels to make the spoked wheels. I'm having to do such with another type of locomotive currently.

I'll double Magick's advice. You've seen it on the Boxcabs. The same goes for those big frames as well. Use alphas whenever, where-ever you can! Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer.

The spoked wheels I mentioned do use alphas in the end. As you can see from the screen shot, it uses a flat square on the front that you alpha to open up. Theya re not fully modeled spokes. But, since it's not all that easy to see the wheels, I'm just going to do it with textures. The Joes also had spoked wheels, but only the pilot trucks were very visible, so they will get the same treatment.Right now, everything is on hold as 3DC will not open for some reason. I've been trading emails with Richard at Amabilis and hope to have it back working soon after an upgrade to 3DC 6.0.2.0.For those 3DC users out there; I have uninstalled 5.7a and deleted the folders, and installed 6. Just waiting for a reply concerning my reg key not working. I see from reading the 3DC forums that some users need new keys.5.7a was giving a send/don't send to MS for some reason and simply would not open.Best,
Todd

Funny, doesn't look like a Quill! Hey, Todd, does this Joe look a little low to the ground? Or is it just an illusion? Happy Days for Milwaukee Juicers! Hope it all goes well for yas!Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Slow turning drivers on 3DC built juicer.

hehehe That's a streamliner Quill. Seriously, the Quill is on hold as other than the noses, the Joe should be a bit easier since it doesn't have so much detail to add.The body might be a bit low. I had to shift a lot of stuff around getting it to "mu" correctly and haven't checked it against the drawings yet. It does articulate correctly now though, which is cool. Looks interesting going through a crossover. Almost as cool as the Freight Motors. I got the alphas done for the truck castings since the above pic. Texturing them will have to wait til tomorrow night or Monday though. Gotta head for work in a bit. *argh*Hopefully finish up the crummy textures then too. I'll send ya a beta when it's ready.Todd
