RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Response to TVRRman: Here's how the ghost got there.
Quote from SRC Commentators:
"Around the turn of the century, a narrow gauge railroad, the Lancaster, Oxford and Southern, ran through the next valley off to your right. It was nicknamed the Little, Old, and Slow, and with a name like that, you can imagine it didn't last very long. Legend has it that the scrapper ripped up the rails so fast that one little engine was left out on the line, searching for the station to which it could not return. To this day, when old number blows its whistle for the crossing up ahead, the ghost of old L.O.&S. #6 answers back. When we come to a stop, listen closely and see if you can here the ghost whistle."The L.O. and S. did exist. Who can tell me why they chose to call it the Little, Old and Slow?Joel Lefever

Well, LO&S and LO&S, so, they match for the first letters. It was cute, and it was a little short railroad, bye the time it was using old engines, and it was slow in productivity, IE it didn't perform well.-------------Strasburg Railroad Equipment III – image 3

In actuality, this is John, not Bob Netzlof. Thanks, sorry for the confusion.

Nah, that's fine. I have heard worse comments! Incidentally, I typed that off memory. I can recite any part of the speech... I must ride too often.

OCrailfan: Depends what day it is- even varys between trains. The actual script for the train ride says "We pay that ghost (insert dollar amount of your choice) to sit over there and blow that whistle for us."
TVRRMAN: You asked a while back if I had any more "scren teasers". Is that supposed to be screen teasers? What's that? Maybe it's like the screen shot I have- I ran the Hogwarts Express (from Harry Potter books) over the CTSRR. Suddenly the coaches and tender disappeared and locomotive began to bounce and finally derail. I got a picture of it in the bounce stage. This is a true story.
Locos are going ok, but I'm considering switching to gMax.Joel Lefever

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Gave up. So angry with 3d modeling, esp. gmax that I'm not going to work on it. Anyone here know how to install gmax? I installed it and the TrainSim Gamepack and when I click on the trainsim gamepack icon in /gamepacks/trainsim, it doesn't do anything. Not even think. If I right click the icon, I find that Open or Open With... are not options. Furthermore, the icon is a general application shortcut icon, so I'm not sure if it's even the right file. I have no idea what's wrong. I see nothing wrong with how I installed it.Joel

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Probably, yes. Furthermore, I don't have time to do it any more. I go back to school in a few days. Also, my dad got me plans for a 3/4 inch scale Shay which I need to convert to 1 inch scale and from Metric to English system. Some of you live steamers will recognize it as Kozo Hiroaka's older shay. It has priority over MSTS. Sorry.Joel Lefever

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Why bother? It's big, hard to handle, and I can always run it at my home track (400ft of 4 3/4inch gauge track plus a siding). Besides, the railroad's Cagney track is too small with no turnouts to let two trains pass, therefore I'd have to run at night or in the early morning, plus transport it there, and I know very well there are no good spots on the track to load/unload. Got gmax to run today, still brings up some direct3d errors. Anyone know what direct3d is?Joel Lefever

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Joel,Direct3d is a program that comes with your computer. It opeartes all of your computers 3D Graphics. One way to correct this is to do a search on a program called "DXDIAG." This should clean up some of your Direct 3D Problems. If it doesn't email me at TVRRMAN@aemail4u.com, and I will help you as much as I physically can. If you also have AIM, you can contact me through that. That way I can guide you through it. I have had problems with my Computer like that so many times I lost count. Hope this helps ya, Joel. *and yes, what you had said, I was asking about a few "Screen Teasers..."

Just search for it? Don't have to do anything? Hmmm...didn't think it knows if you searched for something. What's your AIM screen name? You could private message it to me if you want.Joel LefeverSo what are screen teases? What I guessed? I also have a pictore that shows several pictures I accidentally scanned together, so they are on top of each other, a picture of the Paint screen as a wallpaper so it looks like I'm running paint- My dad apparently kept clicking the X for a long time trying to close it till my mother said it was wallpaper. (It said we need a new computer because it doesn't even close windows right anymore.) I've also tried using the Restore Active Desktop screen as wallpaper. Parents hate that one

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Sorry for the delay Joel.My Screen name for AIM is VIPERS RULE19. "Screen teasers" are images of progress on any particular item, such as for example an image of my latest project, a megapack of Pennsylvania Railroad H21a 70 ton Hoppers. I take mostly teaser shots during thetime they are in their beginning stages and whenever I have an operating copy. I will post some soon, or if you can send me a PM with your email address, I will send some your way, just to see what I do with AutoCAD 2002 and 3D Canvas...

Don't want to insult you, but my father works there- I have access to a coach roster, a loco roster, a freight car roster, as well as a few other docs- at least the ones he leaves lay around the house. I've read through his copy of the speech- and memorized it.Joel Lefever

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

I do have another question for you: How's your version of th route lookin' ? I am sure that it will be great when its finished. I bid you good luck on it...So far, I have tried a few times ab building my own route right now. I will pity the people that reside in my fictious town of Thomasville, Pa, as my Fictious Thomasville Railroad Company's double-track main runs down the center of the main street for six blocks, bears off to the right, and serves the roads eight track main depot. Two more tracks continue alongside the road for yet another wo blocks and interchange with the Pennsylvania Railroad. I wonder what you would say to your boss. "Hey Boss, sory I'm late, but I got stuck beyond a slow moving freight train hading through town..." I don't think that goes over too well...

RE: Strasburg Railroad Equipment III

Actually the Indian Valley car is already listed in that roster. According to my notes (Joel may confirm or deny this) coaches 59, 70 and 96 were painted in the Indian Valley scheme but only two were used for the filming. According to Mike D he thinks that it was 70 and 96 that were actually used in the filming of the movie, but this has yet to be confirmed and will hopefully be after a trip to the SRC today.David
